With so many W-Engines inZenless Zone Zero, it’s tricky to know which are best. There are five types of W-Engines: attack, anomaly, stunt, defense, and support. Each engine type can only be equipped with a character of the same type. With this in mind, a few W-Engines knock it out of the park in terms of useability, so take note of those.
One of the biggest influences on the useability of each W-Engine is the team comp you’re running them with. For instance, if you’re trying to findthe best build for Grace Howard, you will want to use a shock-focused W-Gear like Fusion Compiler or Weeping Gemini to empower her main Anomaly. With a W-Engine like this, you’ll want to find a team that synergizes well with her shock damage and Anomaly application.

Zenless Zone Zero: Best Zhu Yuan Build (W-Engine, Teams, Drive Discs)
The best Zhu Yuan build for Zenless Zone Zero uses the ideal W-Engine, set of Drive Discs, & team combos that strengthen the Public Security Officer.
S
Cannon Rotor
Increase your attack by 7.5%. Landing a critical hit will deal an additional 200% of your attack as damage. This effect can trigger every eight seconds.
The Brimstone
After hitting an enemy with a Basic Attack, Dash Attack, or Dodge Counter, increase your attack by 3.5% for 8s, stacking up to eight times. Each stack lasts the full 8 seconds, and the effect can trigger every 0.5s.
A
Starlight Engine
Doing a Dodge Counter or Quick Assist increases your attack by 12% for 12 seconds.
The best of these four W-Enginesm apply no matter what build you run. Cannon Rotor and the Brimstone both apply directly to your attack rather than relying on any certain damage or attack type. The only caveat to this is the three attack types that The Brimstone requires, but most of your Attack characters will be hitting any of these three moves often enough that it’s a non-issue.

For characters likeEllenin ZZZ, who focus on Ice Damage and physical ATK, W-Engines like Cannon Rotor will build on her impressive base ATK damage.
Steel Cushion and Starlight Engine are a bit more niche, requiring one particular attack type to activate. If you’re running characters that focus on on Dodge Counters or attacks from behind, they’ll work, butbeing conditional makes them a bit weaker overall.Remember that these W-Engines can only be equippedfornattackk characters.

The Restrained
When an attack hits an enemy, damage and Daze from Basic Attacks 6% for 8s, up to 5 stacks. The stacks last 8 seconds and time out separately, and the effect can trigger at most once per skill.
Hellfire Gears
While off-field, the character’s Energy Regen increases by 0.6/s. Additionally, your Impact increases by 10% for 10s, stacking up to two times.
The Restrained’s Daze boost isLycaon’s signature W-Engine, and when you take a look at its Stun-boosting capabilities, you’ll see why.Lycaon’s Ice attacks, along with any Daze application from his team, are boosted by the Restrained’s effect, making a team that can keep enemies stunned long enough to defeat them handily. To fully understand the Daze mechanic, check outExilerJ’s video on YouTube.

While The Restrained isn’t the most broken W-Engine on its own, all it takes is a little synergy with the rest of the team to become the most annoying team.
Hellfire Gears is good because of its practicality. It boosts Energy Regen when the character is off-field, and then on-field increases Impact for each EX special attack the character lands. This W-Engine is simpler than The Restrained but allows a character to use the off-time while another team member is fighting.
Fusion Compiler
Increases ATK by 12%. When using a Special or EX Special Attack, the character’s Anomaly Proficiency is increased by 25 for 8s. This ability stacks up to 3 times, and each stack times out separately.
The best part of the Fusion Compiler is that itboosts the base attack of all Anomaly agents, regardless of their kit. It has other benefits for characters that use their Special and EX Special Attacks often, and additional Proficiency heavily impacts the efficacy of the characters' Anomaly Specialty.
If you need more clarification on how this class of character works, check outGuoba Uncertified’s video on YouTube for a full breakdown. Essentially, these characters focus on applying elemental and status effects that both do damage and impact the way that enemies afflicted by them behave.
Fusion compiler is also Grace Howard’s signature W-Engine, and she takes advantage of the boost to EX Special Attacks. Grace can use her EX Special more than once in a row, which boosts her proficiency by up to 75 total. She’s one of a few characters who can do this, so it only makes sense that she takes advantage of such a substantial buff.
Slice of Time
Any team members' Dodge Counter, Ex Special Attack, Assist Attack, or Chain Attack generates 20/25/30/35 more Decibels respectively and generates 0.7 Energy for the equipped character. The effect can trigger once every 12 seconds for each attack independently of the others.
Weeping Cradle
While off-field, Energy Regen for the equipper increases by 0.6/s. Attacks by the character it’s equipped to increase the whole team’s damage against the struck target by 10% for 3s. During these 3s, the effect compounds by 1.7% every 0.5s to a max of 10.2%. Repeated triggers refresh the duration, but not the damage increase.
Generally speaking, Support W-Engines impact the whole team while providing an additional boost for the character they’re equipped to.Slice of Time allows four independent attacks for the team to be empowered while also providing energy for the characterequipped with it. This means your whole team will be boosted by this W-Engine while your support agent is off the field and will be fully powered up when they get switched in.
Weeping Cradle works similarly, though the energy generation is passive rather than reliant on attacks. Additionally, thisW-Engine’s empowerment of damage relies on the equipped character doing damage, which means it will be more impactful and synergize better with a Support character built for damage. One ofRina’s best buildsfalls right into this category, but you can run it with any support agent.
Bunny Band
Increases max HP by 8% and increases ATK by 10% when the character is shielded.
Original Transmorpher
It increases max HP by 8%. When attacked, the character’s Impact increases by 10% for 12s.
Spring Embrace
Reduce damage taken by 7.5%. When attacked, the character’s Energy Generation increases by 10% for 12s. When the character switches off the field, the buff transfers to the now on-field character.
Big Cylinder
Reduce damage taken by 7.5%. After being attacked, this character’s next attack on an enemy will be a critical hit.
The Bunny Band and Original Transmorpher increase the character’s base HP,which is suitable for any tank-style character like Ben.If you need help building Ben, look atEODGamer’s video on YouTube. Increasing your base HP will keep you alive longer, and then you’ll be even further buffed when any defense characters shield you. Original Transmorpher has a similar effect, but rather than buffing the attack, it buffs Impact.
Impact influences Daze accumulation, which means characters with higher Impact have an easier time Stunning enemies. That being said,Original Transmorpher might be a good choice for a defense agent who needs some time to be effective.Once enemies are stunned, your agent will have an easier time dispatching them.
Spring Embrace and Big Cylinder work differently to keep your characters alive byreducing the damage taken rather than increasing your HP. Still, even though they’re a bit different, they have similar outcomes. Spring Embrace buffs your character’s energy generation, which also extends to any teammate who switches in.
Big Cylinder is less powerful, as its buffs don’t extend to your team, butif your defensive character hits hard, the critical hit that Big Cylinder provides can do some awesome damage.
While there are tons of W-Engines inZenless Zone Zero, these are the few that outrank the others in their category. Because the game’s meta changes as you change team comps, you might also have to switch around what W-Engines you run. While you’re at it, take advantage of all the customization the game has on offer by trying some ofZZZ’s coolest Bangboosto spice up your team comp.
