Cyclops Has Major Issues With Training Children as Soldiers

Later inX-Men #6,Temper and Magik bring a young mutant, Piper Cobb, to the Factory after investigating her use of the Midnight M and believing her powers were urgent enough for Cyclops to know about. Upon arrival at the Factory, Temper introduces Piper to Cyclops as a mutant. Cyclops immediately argues, saying he knows what she is, but he’d wished Temper and Magik had come to him first, before bringing a minor into their home, especially without the consent of her guardian.

Cyclops wasone of the founding members of the X-Men, and was raised to be a leader from a very young age. As a teenager, he was basically leading an army of child soldiers into battle, so his concern about bringing children into the fight is valid, seeing everything he had to endure in his past. He had more responsibilities placed onto his shoulders than any of the other X-Men, and it even caused him to develop a reserved demeanor that prevented him from expressing his true feelings for his teammate, Jean Grey, who he had fallen in love with.

What Cyclops' Concerns Could Mean for The Future of The X-Men

Beast is another one of the founding members alongside Cyclops, so he knows the trama that comes with fighting Charles Xavier’s fight his entire life. His remarks about the danger room and Magneto only emphasize Cyclops' concern. The original X-Men were essentially thrown into dangerous situations to prepare for combat. They became so desensitized that they started to love the things they once feared. They became heroes, but in hindsight, as adults, they can see what it truly did to their childhood. Cyclops knows that making any child an X-Men member is dangerous, and refuses to endanger any more children.

X-Men Confirms Rogue Is Now One of Marvel’s Strongest Heroes of All Time, After Permanently Absorbing a God-Tier Avenger

X-Men’s Rogue reveals that she secretly still has the powers of a god-tier Avenger, turning her into one of Marvel’s strongest heroes ever.

Cyclops has welcomed the new mutants, Ben Liu and Jennifer Starkey, with open arms. As a founding member, Cyclops has been an X-Men longer than almost any other mutant. No one would blame Cyclops for the hesitation he has about basically kidnapping children to use as soldiers, as Xavier once did. Cyclops' reservations could bring about a safer future for mutant children, but may eventually conflict with Rogue as she runs her X-Men very differently.
