Charles Xavier’s dream has been the central foundation for theX-Menfor over sixty years, and while his fall from grace was devastating for mutantkind, it hitWolverineharder than most. Logan has never handled betrayal well, buthis complex history with Xavier makes the X-Men founder’s transgressions so hard to get past that Wolverine is prepared to kill him for his wrongdoings.

Wolverine joined the X-Men inGiant-Size X-Men#1 – written by Len Wein, with Dave Cockrum – and quickly became one of the most fervent believers in Charles Xavier’s dream that mutants and humans can coexist.

The franchise’s Krakoan Erabrought many betrayals for the adamantium-laced mutant, including his teammate Beast, but Xavier’s turn was by far the worst. His decision to (seemingly) kill humans in an attempt to save mutant lives was so severeit left Wolverine ready to killhim.

Logan Wants To Personally End Him For It

When Orchis attackedthe mutant nation of Krakoa, life changed rapidly for mutantkind. The culture and life they’d established on the living island was ripped away from them through a wicked alliance between AI and humanity. Yet, even though Orchis' attacks were devastating, it was the chain of eventsset off by Charles Xavierthat sent mutants veering into unknown territory. Xavier cut a deal with Orchis and, in exchange for sparing mutant lives, apparently killed a ship full of human officers. While fans now know that was apparently a ruse, the X-Men don’t have that knowledge.

Wolverine remained loyal to Xavier’s ideas even when others moved beyond them; knowing that Xavier threw that all away to appease mutantkind’s worst enemy was an unforgivable act.

Instead, they see a man who betrayed everything he stood for, and everything he recruited other mutants to defend. For Wolverine, being an X-Men meant regaining the humanity he thought he’d never find again. With Charles' guidance, he was able to find the man inside himself that he thought he’d lost. Charles Xavier Became A Father Figure To Wolverine, And Now Logan Can’t Let Go Of His Betrayal

Wolverine Takes Professor X’s Failure Extremely Personally

AlthoughWolverine is a full century olderthan Charles, the relationship they built together led to Xavier becoming something of a surrogate father for Logan. It was never perfect, as Professor X has always been prone to using subtle manipulation and omission to steer people in the directions he wants them to go, but Wolverine put a trust in Chuck that he rarely gives to other people. He views him as the man who saved his life, if not literally, then in spirit, as he could’ve easily become more of a monster than a man without the X-Men.

Xavier gave Wolverine purpose and direction he struggled to find alone, and his actions on Krakoa and with Orchis cast a dark cloud over Wolverine’s years of faith.

The X-Men have always embodied the idea of “found family” and that was especially true for Wolverine. Charles wasn’t simply a respected figure or a mentor.Logan regarded him as his family, and that colored their interactions for decades.Logan defended his dream with such determination that he started the Jean Grey School as a way tohonor the deceased Professor Xand Jean Grey – two of the deepest bonds he’s ever formed. Only One Thing Can Set Them Both Free

Although Charles Xavier isn’t exactly guilty of the crimes Logan and mutantkind believe, his long history of crossing moral lines and treading on the autonomy of others stacks the odds against him. If and when the truth comes out and everyone realizes that the Professor did not violate all the edicts of his long-praised dream, a great deal of damage is already done.By making himself out to be a villain, Xavier left the floor open for even his most loyal followers to begin processing his decades of questionable choicesand outright wrongdoings. A truthful confession won’t reverse that.

Cyclops Wants to Keep Professor Xavier Locked Up And Honestly? The X-Men Icon Has a Good Reason

Founding X-Men leader Cyclops is dead serious about keeping Professor X behind bars, and frankly, the iconic hero gives extremely compelling reason.

In Logan’s case, it also means the man he trusted unfailingly did not trust him in return. He put his life and mind in the Professor’s hands on many occasions and was not given even a sliver of that consideration or courtesy in return. Xavier’s actions left Wolverine and theX-Menbattling the idea that nothing they’ve ever done means anything and added a note of cruelty to Charles' secrecy. The truth won’t set him free.Wolverinewill never forgive Charles Xavier for his actions during the fall of Krakoa, and their relationship is forever changed as a result.

Wolverine

The human mutant Wolverine (a.k.a. Logan) was born James Howlett, blessed with a superhuman healing factor, senses, and physiology. Subjecting himself to experimentation to augment his skeleton and claws with adamantium, Logan is as deadly as he is reckless, impulsive, and short-tempered. Making him the X-Men’s wildest and deadliest member, and one of Marvel Comics' biggest stars. He’s played in Fox and Marvel’s movie franchises by Hugh Jackman.
