Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for the Evil series finale!

Summary

Evilstar Katja Herbers has explained why Kristen and David aren’t a couple during the series finale, revealing why the pair don’t end up romantically attached.Evilseason 4 endedthe show by having Kristen and David continue the assessor program in Rome, the single mother moving there with her five children in order to assist the Vatican with their work. While the pair remain close, as seen in the final moments of the episode, they decidedly don’t end up romantically involved with each other despite the interest they’ve shown for one another.

Speaking withPeople, Herbers, who portrays Kristen, explains why her and David weren’t a couple by the end ofEvil’s series finale. The actor explained howthe deep connection they feel for one another is still strong, but their current circumstances and mindsets prevent them from getting romantically involved with each other. Check out what Herbers had to say below:

In a hallucination, Kristen (Katja Herbers) whispering sensually into David’s (Mike Colter) ear in Evil Season 4 Episode 9

These people have had sex with each other in their minds a hundred times over. They haven’t in real life. They’ve worked together under crazy circumstances, these crazy cases, enormously bonding experience. They’re really good friends, and they have this insane attraction to each other, and they also understand that it’s not going to happen, or something, while still fantasizing about each other. So I think Kristen respects David so much that she’s not going to coerce him into having some — just a bit of sex — with her. I think it would be all or nothing for them.

Why It’s Better Kristen & David Didn’t Get Together In Evil’s Series Finale

The Pair Set Boundaries Despite Attraction Toward Each Other

Out of everyone on thecast ofEvil,Kristen and David have shared the most chemistry, with the pair struggling against their feelings for one another. This included David being seduced by a succubus taking his partner’s shape, who, in turn, has had continual fantasies about being with him despite his new role as a priest. However, while the duo have shared a kiss with each other and acknowledged their feelings for one another, they’ve managed to avoid a longstanding romantic connection. This seemingly includes during their new roles as assessors in Rome.

Kristen and David not being together during theEvilseries finalemakes sense because of their development throughout the series. While they’ve both had temptations toward one another since the very start, their decisions not to act on anything led to a stronger friendship through mutual understanding.Even though there have been times where they’ve wanted to be with each other, the strength they’ve shown in the past means it makes sense for them to still not be a couple during the series finale.

What An Evil Spinoff Would Really Need To Be The Perfect Season 5 Replacement

An Evil spin-off show after the series finale could be the perfect way to keep the show’s magic alive, as long as it includes these elements.

However, sinceEvilwas cancelled before the creators' plans through season 6 could be realized, a potential romance between the two could have been in the cards. However, as Herbers states, their pairing together would have been “all or nothing,” meaning David would likely have to leave the Church if he wanted to be with her. But, with his loyalty to God and her thinking about the future of her children, it seems more reasonable for both of them to avoid becoming a couple, even if they’ve been tempted since the very beginning.
