Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney Have “Wrexham In Their Hearts”

In speaking with the Wrexham AFC Men and Women’s teams, it is clear that they have the utmost respect for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. They all speak highly of them, stating that they care about them as people, they care about the team, and they care about the town. Eoghan O’Connell and Arthur Okonokwo both feel lucky to have them.

Eoghan O’Connell: Strip everything back, they are just brilliant people. They’re great with all the players, and they look after us equally. We are really lucky to have them

Arthur Okonokwo: They’re like friends. You wouldn’t even remember that they are who they are. It’s amazing to have that. They’re so supportive and they love the club. They have so much passion that I am sure everyone has seen. It’s just really good to have that.

Fans ofWelcome to Wrexhamknow The Turf, the pub outside the Racecourse Football Stadium, well. Owner Wayne Jones says that Ryan and Rob are exactly as you would expect them to be.

Wayne Jones: What you see is what you get. They’re not over fancy. They’re not fake. I don’t really have any words for them. They’re just genuinely lovely, down-to-Earth, humble people who will help you out if you need it. Clearly, they have a stature where they can’t just live an ordinary life. And I wouldn’t want that, if I’m honest. They deal with it well. Really well. They seem to have Wrexham as a whole, as a community, in their heart, and I know people in Wrexham, and people in Wales, are appreciative of it. Long may it continue because we love them to bits.

Wrexham Football Manager Phil Parkinson praises both Ryan and Rob for letting the people at the club do their job, and for trusting them to do their job.

Phil Parkinson: They’ve been brilliant. They’re very supportive, but most of all, they let us get on with our job. They come over, and we talk about football, but they really trust the people they’ve employed to do their job. You probably think, doesn’t that always happen? Well the answer is, no. It should, but it’s a great skill to say I bought a football club, and I’m going to bring people in, and I’m going to let them manage.

They’ve given us ownership to do our job and I like to think, up to now, we have repaid that faith. It’s been a great journey. Their interaction with the lads as well. They are great guys. Every player who comes to the club they want to speak to and make them feel really involved and valued in the football club. We have a family atmosphere in the club.

Wrexham Team Members Know That Having Fans All Over The World Is “Amazing”

Head of Wrexham AFC Women’s Football Operations Gemma Owen loves what the docuseries has done in terms of sharing the people of Wrexham’s story around the world.

Gemma Owen: People can be guilty of looking at footballers as players and nothing else. What this documentary has allowed us to do is for the world to see them as the amazing people that they actually are. We have a wonderful group of players and staff here, and I am really pleased that everyone around the world is getting to see that.

Footballer George Dobson, who has just joined the club, says he has not yet been recognized by fans ofWelcome To Wrexham, but he is looking forward to when the time comes.

George Dobson: I’ve just joined the club, so I’ve not really seen [the fandom] yet, but I’ve heard coming up at the stadium, and the support out here is amazing, and then obviously, from watching the documentary, so I am looking forward to it.

Jacob Mendy expresses how exciting it was for Wrexham to get back-to-back promotions and has confidence that they can keep this going all the way to the top.

Jacob Mendy: Super exciting. We want to make sure we do it next year as well. Back to back to back to back. That’s the plan.

Footballer Rosie Hughes jokes that she has always known she is a star thanks to the support from her sisters, so it is about time the world caught up.

Rosie Hughes: It feels amazing. I grew up with my sisters being my biggest fans. They always supported me, and they always made me feel special. They made me feel like I was a big star anyway, so since this documentary, and since playing for Wrexham, and now that I am supported worldwide, I just feel like everything my sisters have built me up to believe, I am living. It was meant to be, to be honest. And I appreciate everyone.

Welcome To Wrexham’s 2024 Emmy Nominations Are Well Deserved

Welcome To Wrexhamreceived six 2024 Emmy nominations, something that Wrexham AFC Executive Director Humphrey Ker says is well deserved because everyone who works on the documentary puts everything they have into it.

Humphrey Ker: It’s fantastic. It’s a great reward for all the people that work so hard on the documentary who sometimes don’t get the same level of recognition that those of us on the football side of things do. The team that are in Wrexham the whole time are there 365 days a year, 24 hours a day covering all this. These guys get championship medals, and we get trophies, so it is great to have the same for the documentary gang too.

Rob McElhenney Says Sharing Wrexham Stories Is The “Greatest Gift”

One of the thingsWelcome To Wrexhamdoes so well is share the stories of the people of Wrexham with the world, allowing audiences to connect with them. Co-chairman Rob McElhenney says that being able to do this is incredibly heartwarming, and the greatest gift he has been given.

Rob McElhenney: It’s truly the greatest gift that I’ve ever been given. To see the town open themselves up, and their hearts up, and their homes up, and their community up, to be honest and tell their story, and now they know for sure that they are sharing it with the world. It is so unbelievably heartwarming.

How Welcome To Wrexham Finds The Balance Between Matches & Personal Stories

Welcome To WrexhamExecutive Producer Jeff Luini has a hand in deciding which personal stories are told in the series. The perfect balance between this, and the matches, is what has made many viewers fall in love with this football club.

Jeff Luini: There’s a group of us, our story team, and we are already working on season four. We had our first meeting yesterday. It is one of those things where we are constantly looking for what is a story. We have people in the UK that are on the ground, they’re looking out and telling us what’s happening in the town. You never know. Our ears are always up. If someone in town has a nice story for us, and it is shared with someone there, hopefully we’ll uncover it. We are always looking. We did 18 episodes season one, 15 season 2, 8 last season. We always need content and good stories to tell.
