Watsonwill continue solving mysteries in further episodes. The CBS series, which was created byElementaryexecutive producer Craig Sweeny, is a modernized story featuring the characters from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’sSherlock Holmesstories, following Dr. John Watson (Morris Chestnut) solving medical mysteries in Pittsburgh after the death of Holmes (the voice of Matt Berry). The show’s premiere was the most-streamed episode of any scripted CBS Original series for the 2024-2025 season with 7 million Paramount+ viewers, soWatsonseason 2seemed like a strong prospect even at the time.
CBShas now announced thatWatsonhas been officially renewed for season 2. This announcement comes as season 1 is still ongoing, with episode 9 of the 13-episode season set to premiere on March 30, leading up to a season finale set to air in two parts on May 4 and May 11. The new episodes will premiere during the 2025-2026 season and will also be available to stream on Paramount+.

What This Means For Watson
The Show Is A Bona Fide Hit
This renewal proves that, even though series' ratings tend to naturally drop after their premiere episodes, the newSherlock Holmes-inspired show is maintaining solid-enough viewershipeven midway through its freshman season that CBS wants to keep it in their lineup. This early renewal also most likely gives producers ample time to secure the returns of various members of theWatsoncast. While the majority of the main cast is likely already contracted to appear in season 2, important recurring and guest stars include Berry, Randall Park as Moriarty, and Whoopie Van Raam as Irene Adler.
In addition to Chestnut,Watsonalso stars Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Inga Schlingmann, Ritchie Coste, and Rochelle Aytes.

This renewal also shows thatWatsonis on very solid footing. While it joins an upcoming slate that already includes 17 other series such asGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,Matlock, andTracker, the network has recently cancelled some of their most notable series, includingS.W.A.T., and theFBIspinoffsMost WantedandInternational. In fact,S.W.A.T.has been cancelled for the second time, as it was previously cancelled ahead of season 7, only for that decision to be reversed.
Our Take On Watson Season 2 Being Renewed
Moriarty Has More Room To Enact His Plans
Now thatWatsonis set to return, it casts doubt upon whetherMoriarty’s villainous planwill be thwarted by the end of the season. However, given the fact that the season finale is just over a month away, it was most likely fully planned before the renewal decision was made, meaning thatthe overarching story of season 1 will probably reach a conclusive end, though it will amost undoubtedly leave the door open for Moriarty or his disciples to continue to plague Watson in other ways down the road.
Watsonseason 1 airs on CBS on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
