After seeing the sneak peek of Axel in theTwisted Metalseason 2 trailer, I’m fully confident that the TV show will do the iconic character justice. The Peacock show based on the eponymous video game series is finally returning in Summer 2025, and I couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming vehicle combat tournament. The trailer reveals nine newvideo game characters joiningTwisted Metalseason 2, including individuals from different games across the franchise. Perhaps the most anticipated addition is Axel, who appears in every Twisted Metal game except for the original.

Though his backstory has changed drastically, the depiction of Axel in the games has remained relatively consistent. A man is attached by his arms to two gigantic wheels with machine guns. Sometimes, he’s standing on a platform, and other times, he wears a waist harness. However, in every iteration, his body is left unprotected. This design posed a challenge for the showrunners, who admitted they hadno clue how to adapt the character for theTwisted MetalTV show. Luckily, they seem to have figured it out because his appearance in theTwisted Metalseason 2 trailer looks epic.

I’m Already Impressed By Axel’s Appearance In Twisted Metal Season 2

Axel’s Design Looks Faithful To The Twisted Metal Video Games

The few moments where Axel is visible in theTwisted Metalseason 2trailer increase my excitement for the TV show version of the character. Axel and his wheels are first visible in the very background of the wide shot of all the vehicles. Looking at the size of the vehicle, the wheels are twice the size of the car next to it and slightly smaller than the Roach Coach.

Additionally, Axel is teased at the end, locking his hand into the wheel through a metal gauntlet. The only part covered by metal is his hand, leaving his forearm bare. Though it doesn’t show much, it does promise loyalty to the character, whose defining trait is his body being completely unprotected. I’m also impressed that they figured out the mechanisms for, arguably, the most difficult-to-adapt character of the Twisted Metal video game. The ability to attach and detach from the vehicle will allow Axel to appear in more scenes leading up to the tournament.

The Twisted Metal Show Continues To Prove It’s Capable Of Adapting Fun Video Game Characters

Twisted Metal Finds Creative Ways To Bring The Best Video Game Characters To Life

The first sign that theTwisted MetalTV show had what it took to adapt the video game franchise was Sweet Tooth, the murderous clown with a flaming head.Twisted Metalseason 1 provides a fresh, post-apocalyptic spin on the character, withSamoa Joe playing Sweet Toothand Will Arnett voicing him.

The show also provides a fun take on Granny Dread and Miranda Watts. They completely refreshed Granny Dread’s look, making her look like an edgy hippy in the TV show. Meanwhile, Miranda Watts keeps her purple and white racer jumpsuit but ties the top part around her waist and wears a crop-top cami. I felt a thrill watching her drive Twister, and I’m hoping she’ll reprise the role inTwisted Metalseason 2.

Twisted Metal Season 2 Revealed Its Version Of Calypso, And I’m Officially Sold On The Casting

Twisted Metal season 2 had a major challenge when casting the villain Calypso, but I’m officially on board after the trailer revealed its version.

The trailer forTwisted Metalseason 2 provided the first glimpse of Calypso, the franchise’s primary villain. Unlike Axel’s tease, the clip of Calypso shows his full costume and hair as well as providing an audio clip. Anthony Carrigan’s version of the powerful character has the gravitas and appearance ofTwisted Metal 2andTwisted Metal (2012).
