Stars Talks Time Bandits Season 1 Finale: “It’s Good To End On A Cliffhanger”

Screen Rant: What was your reaction when you read the script for the Time Bandits finale?

Kal-El Tuck: I thought of how it’s good that it can leave on a cliffhanger. That means there could be more to see. This is not the end of the Time Bandits. Hopefully there will be more.

Screen Rant: Were you surprised to find out they didn’t even end up with the map?

Kal-El Tuck: Yeah, it’s a twist and a twist and a twist.

Rune Temte: Bittelig, he was hoping there was food in the box. So he was very disappointed when it was this thing. Maybe you saw the scene where Bittelig starts to dig. I think he’s very hungry at that stage, so he’s trying to find some more food.

Rune Is Surprised Bittelig Survived Time Bandits Season 1

Screen Rant: Is there something that surprised or excited you about your character’s arc throughout season 1?

Kal-El Tuck: It surprised me that Kevin is so calm. Kevin’s going through time and doing crazy things. Yes, he’s screaming and running around in terror, but to be honest, compared to anyone else who’s gotten kidnapped by bandits, he’s doing pretty well.

Taika Waititi As Supreme Being In Time Bandits 2024.jpg

Rune Temte: I’m first of all, very happy and very surprised that I survive everything I do in the series, because he’s opening panthers and jumping off cliffs. So I’m very pleased. Thank you showrunners.

Kal-El & Rune Reveal Their Favorite Time Periods To Film In

Screen Rant: Is there a favorite time period that you got to play in?

Kal-El Tuck: The favorite one that I filmed was Harlem. Old New York. I think it was amazing. I loved the costumes. Loved how everyone had some nice fashion. The culture was amazing. The characters were so fun to interact with. It was a very fun place in time.

Rune Temte: Yeah, I agree with you, Kal-El. We had great, great fun with Harlem and great times and great people. Of course, I got to wear my concrete shoes. That was an amazing challenge for me as an actor. There’s actually something that’s not in the series, I hope there will be, maybe they cut it in some other way, but I was actually doing a dance with the concrete shoes. I enjoyed that. That was a really challenging thing for me. I have done dancing in my past as an actor, but with concrete shoes, you can imagine. Harlem was really good, yeah.

And I totally enjoyed when we were in the Trojan Horse. That was great fun, I think, because it’s a such big, well known moment in history. So to actually be inside the Trojan horse was very exciting, I just have to tell you an anecdote, because we’re filming, and of course, it’s not a lot of space inside the horse. So the Greeks were doing all the dancing and celebrating everything, and Taika was filming. We had two cameras in there to get all the reactions, then Taika suddenly said, “Bring in another camera.” So, oh, my God, there’s another camera operator coming in. With everyone, it felt so packed in there with people. It was the first day and I thought, “Okay, another six months of this.”

Jemaine Clement & Taika Waititi Are Amazing To Work With

“He loves to improvise, and it’s a really fun challenge.”

Screen Rant: What was it like working with Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement?

Kal-El Tuck: It was amazing working with both of them. There’s a very good scene with me and Taika, where it’s way longer than it should have been. He loves to improvise, and it’s a really fun challenge to keep on going along with him. He changed costumes, then he’d change where we were. Then he changed the full script, and you just have to go along [with it]. And I think that’s great, and it’s amazing that he’s the Supreme Being and then Jemaine is Pure Evil. I think that was a very funny choice to make. They just worked so well together, as mortal enemies.

Time Bandits

Rune Temte: I don’t know what I can say. It’s hard work with these guys. You just have to try and keep up with them. That’s all I can say. It’s challenging in that way, that everything goes so fast and their brains. I don’t know what it is with their brains, because they tick really fast, and they’re just so far ahead, but of course, [they have] such big, big hearts, both of them. They have so much love for everything, and they love what they do, so we are just in the best hands ever.

It’s funny, because obviously they write as we go forward, but also they see what we propose, and then they write, they go home, and then you get the script. And I remember Jemaine came in one day, and he said, “Rune, did you get the script?” And I said, “No,”. He said, “Oh yes, you should have had it last night, but never mind, here it is.” And he gave me three pages, and said “Are you ready to shoot in 10 minutes?” I said, “Jemaine, 10 minutes?”

And it was handwritten, so I asked some crew member, could you help me here? Because it’s handwritten. Anyway, it’s fun, but it’s challenging. And they are really excited. They are like children. If we go, they go. And I think that’s really, as actors, this is what we love. These are people that really are that engaged, and they laugh a lot. I love being with these guys.

Kal-El Says His Life Is A Good As It Could Be After Time Bandits Season 1

Screen Rant: In the finale, Pure Evil shows everyone their ideal future should they give him the map. What would your ideal life be?

Rune Temte: Maybe a world that’s a little bit easier, a little bit calmer than the world we live in today. I think that’s all. I think, on every level, a little bit more calm, a little less stressful in the bigger issues around the world.

Kal-El Tuck: I think how I live right now is probably the best it could be. I’m living through. Challenges happen, but you learn from mistakes. You have to have a bit of room, I guess.

Kal-El Wants To See Kevin Out Of His Element In Season 2

“I think a great time for them to go to is probably the future.”

Screen Rant: Should there be a season 2, is there a time period you would most like to visit?

Rune Temte: Kal-El where do you want to go? Do you want to come up here to the Viking Age? You want to visit me up in Norway for a shoot?

Kal-El Tuck: That would be some good fun. I think a great time for them to go to is probably the future, because then Kevin wouldn’t know anything there. So it’s like he’s going to a fresh place that he wouldn’t have any information about, so he’s just going along with it. I think the future would be great,

Rune Temte: And we all want to see how they got to make the pyramids, don’t we?
