Tim Curry’s Most Iconic Roles Are In Horror
His Pennywise Remains Iconic
Tim Curry’s talents as an actor have extended to many different types of roles, such as musicals and family-friendly movies. However, there is no denying thatthe most memorable and beloved parts of his storied career have come from the horror genre. Of course, this begins with his breakout role inThe Rocky Horror Picture, which has become an icon of the genre, yet also serves to highlight Curry’s musical and comedic skills.
Curry also had a way of standing out even under some heavy prosthetics, creating some other famous horror characters even when he was unrecognizable. Though a fantasy movie more than a horror movie, Curry is terrifying and unforgettable as the villainous demon Darkness inLegend. While the movie comes from director Ridley Scott and served as an early starring role for Tom Cruise, Curry is easily the best part of the movie.
However, when it comes to terrifying young audiences,Curry truly cemented himself in the nightmares of kids and on the list of horror icons as the demon close to Pennywisein the 1990 TV miniseries adaptation ofStephen King’s It.While Bill Skarsgård made the role his own in the remake, many still regard Curry’s take on Pennywise as the definitive one, mixing a playful menace with the true danger of the character. WhileStreamis unlikely to have as big of an impact as those roles, Curry’s already proven himself a legend of the horror genre.
