Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Skeleton Crew episode 1.A new antagonist inStar Wars: Skeleton Crewincludes one detail that may remind viewers of the iconicStar Warsbounty hunter Boba Fett.Skeleton Crew, which is set around the same time as otherDisney+Star Warsshows, follows a group of children who seek to find their way home after being lost in deep space. Along the way, they run afoul of pirates, including the sinister Brutus, a Shistavanen whose seemingly unnecessary number of armaments may serve a purpose other than simple aesthetics.
Blastersare among the most common weapons in theStar Warsfranchise, and while these energy weapons have countless variants, there are certain traits that remain constant among them. Nearly all blasters carry hundreds of blaster bolts' worth of energy and explosive gas (though there are extremely rare instances of blasters that use magazine-like gas canisters, such as DC-17ms used by Clone Commandos, or energy packs, like Director Orson Krennic’s DT-29). With many blasters having adjustable power settings, there was little need for a warrior to carry more than a single blaster pistol or rifle in most cases.

Brutus' Blasters Are Comparable To Boba Fett’s Scalps
Brutus is shown carrying at least five blaster pistols inSkeleton Crew, however, which seems like overkill, even for a pirate. The choice to give him so many blasters was likely inspired by real-world 18th century pirates, who, in some cases, carried multiple flintlock pistols to compensate for the weapons’ lengthy reload time and capacity for only a single shot. Since blasters can generally be fired hundreds of times before requiring reloading, this allusion seemingly makes little sense in-universe.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Cast & Character Guide
Since Lucasfilm debuted the trailer for Skeleton Crew, it’s helpful to know who is in Disney’s latest Star Wars show - & who their characters are.
SomeStar Warscharacters – such as Jango Fett, Captain Fordo, and Captain Rex – wield two blaster pistols simultaneously. They wield two weapons to increase their rate of fire and to attack two enemies at once, however, not to compensate for a lack of ammunition or firepower.

A potential in-universe explanation for Brutus’s blasters would liken the pirate to Boba Fett. Fett displays the braided scalps of slain Wookiees on his armor to intimidate his enemies, since Wookiees are among the most feared and formidable beings in the galaxy. There could be a similar reason why Brutus carries so many blaster pistols.Brutus might be displaying the weapons of slain enemies to look more fearsome.
Brutus Is Clearly A Terrifying New Star Wars Character
Little has been revealed about Brutus thus far, other than his faithful service as first mate to the pirate captain Silvo and eventual leadership of a mutiny. In the opening scene ofSkeleton Crew’s pilot episode, “This Could Be A Real Adventure”,Brutus is shown dual-wielding blaster pistols with the remaining three visible on his bandolier. Whether Brutus displays a multitude of blaster pistols for the same reason as Boba Fett’s Wookiee scalps or not, the pirate looks to be a formidable new villain inStar Wars: Skeleton Crew.
