With a price decrease and expanded options, including several features exclusive to the PC version,Rise of the Roninon Steam should hopefully be the definitive version of the game. Notably, unlike Team Ninja’s last Soulslike PC port,Nioh 2- The Complete Edition,Rise of the Roninhas not received any post-launch DLC, and the Steam version of the game should be identical, content-wise, to the PlayStation 5 version. An early-order bonus, which lasts until April 2, will also give players early access to in-game armor, weapons, and fighting styles.

Rise of the Ronin Review: “An Immersive Open-World Historical Epic That Values Its Players' Time”

Rise of the Ronin is an immersive open-world title that does a lot of work to value the time of its players, making for a rewarding journey.

Like many of Team Ninja’s other games,Rise of the Roninis (heavily exaggerated) historical fiction, set in 19th-century Japan, following a player-created custom character through historical events. Where the game differs from the likes ofNiohandWo Long, however, is in its open world, which players can explore with more freedom, as opposed to the former two games' relatively closed-off individual levels. In this way,Rise of the Roninis more roughly comparable to games likeAssassin’s CreedandGhosts of Tsushima.

Rise Of The Ronin Blends Team Ninja’s Soulslike Action With Open-World Exploration

Overall, for fans ofNiohorWo Longwho missed out onRise of the Ronindue to its PS5 exclusivity, the game’s core combat should feel very familiar, as the game adopts a stance system relatively similar toNioh’s. Generally,Rise of the Ronin’s combat is something of a middle ground between the complexity ofNiohand the more streamlined, parry-focusedWo Long, but the game also adds open-world traversal and progression into the mix - which may or may not be a positive for some players.

10 Biggest Differences Between Rise Of The Ronin & Ghost Of Tsushima

Rise of the Ronin and Ghost of Tsushima are both samurai-coded games, but there are plenty of notable differences such as co-op and customization.

Unfortunately, the upcoming Steam release ofRise of the Ronincomes with a significant caveat, that being Koei Tecmo’s history of unoptimized PC ports. BothNioh 2andWo Long: Fallen Dynastyhad significant performance issues on PC when they launched, and though the recentDynasty Warriors: Originsshows improvement in that regard, it remains to be seen whetherRoninwill continue that trend. Putting aside potential issues, however,Rise of the Roninon Steam is shaping up to be the definitive way to play the game when it releases on March 11.
