WhileGeorge Lucas' sequel trilogy never came to fruition, the villains he planned to use have been brought to life by an exceptionalStar Warscosplay. Following the conclusion of theStar Warsprequel trilogy, Lucas was initially adamant that there was noEpisode VIIand that he would never allow another filmmaker to continue his saga. However, Lucas changed his mind when he sold the franchise to Disney in 2012, who quickly set Lucasfilm to work on theStar Warssequel trilogy. Lucas had even developed his own treatments withDarth Maul and Darth Talon as the main villains.

Instagram cosplayerray_shreiderhas posted many impressive photos of a live-action Darth Talon, and one of the best is a gorgeously lit shot of her and Darth Maul:

The makeup perfectly captures Maul’s design from the movies and Talon’s appearance inStar Wars: Legacyby John Ostrander and Jan Duursema, where she debuted in 2006. Lucas was impressed enough by her character to have her and Maul face off against the New Republic and Luke Skywalker’s New Jedi Order in his version of the sequel trilogy.

From films to video games

George Lucas was clearly determined to have Darth Maul and Darth Talon return toStar Wars, as multiple projects were in development around the same time. Maul eventually returned inStar Wars: The Clone Warsseason 4, where it was revealed that he survived getting cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi and sported a new set of robotic legs. Maul and his brother, Savage Opress, formed their own criminal syndicate, similar to Maul’s role inGeorge Lucas’s sequel trilogy plans.

Everything We Know About Darth Talon, George Lucas' Sequel Era Sith Apprentice

Darth Talon began in Star Wars Legends comics but was going to be in George Lucas’s Sequel Trilogy before Disney. Who is this Sith Lord?

Another canceled project was a Darth Maul video game, tentatively titledBattle of the Sith Lords. Because Darth Talon lived over 130 years afterReturn of the Jediin the Expanded Universe, Lucas suggested that the main character could be Maul’s clone or descendant.Maul would have teamed up with Talon to fight Darth Krayt and the One Sith, who had violated the Rule of Two by having an army of Sith Lords. Considering how persistentGeorge Lucaswas in using Darth Talon, perhaps she’ll eventually make her debut inStar Warscanon, even if not in a sequel trilogy.

Darth Maul

Palpatine’s apprentice, Darth Maul was nothing more than a tool to winnow down the ranks of the Jedi ahead of Darth Sidious' true plans. Discarded after he was defeated by Obi-Wan Kenobi on Naboo, Darth Maul swore revenge against all those he blamed for his past struggles - Jedi and Sith alike. Maul tended to operate within the shadows, running various syndicates, and even established himself as a true rival for Palpatine on at least one occasion. He was eventually killed by Obi-Wan in a duel on Tatooine.
