The Mandalorianmay have teased a dark future for Grogu – one that mirrors Anakin Skywalker’s.Grogu’s relationships with the Forceand the Jedi have been tumultuous throughoutthree seasons ofThe Mandalorian. Initially, he was traumatized from the horror of Order 66 and forgot how to use the Force until he needed to project Din Djarin. Then, in the end, he leaves Luke Skywalker’s new Jedi Academy to be with Din, eschewing one of the Jedi Order’s most fundamental rules.

It’s clear Grogu is powerful with the Force – Moff Gideon and the Empire wouldn’t have been so hellbent on capturing him if he wasn’t – but right now, he’s exactly where he belongs. He’s clearly happy, settled with Din on Nevarro, and while it’s impossible to know where his story will go inThe Mandalorian & Grogu, there’s a good chance he’ll become the first Mandalorian Jedi; he did connect with the Mythosaur, after all. What if that’s not what happens, though? What ifThe Mandalorianseason 2 set up an entirely different future for Grogu? A much darker future?

The 15 Best Grogu Moments In Star Wars, Ranked

Following his debut in The Mandalorian, Grogu has quickly become one of Star Wars' most beloved characters. Here are his 15 best moments so far.

Grogu Wanted The Force For Power

WhenLuke Skywalker comes to rescue Groguin the final episode ofThe Mandalorianseason 2, Grogu is understandably drawn to him. It’s more than their shared connection as Jedi, though. As Grogu watches Luke tear his way through dozens of armored droids without breaking a sweat,he’s drawn to Luke’s power and his ability to protect himself and those around him. That’s what Grogu wants out of the Force.

He’s arguably too young to fully understand what it means to be connected to the light and the importance of finding balance. What Grogu does know is thathe wants to protect Din Djarin, and the Force can give him the power to do so. Wanting to be able to control the Force for the power it can grant you is a dark side trait, however. If Grogu is never taught the difference by either Luke, Ahsoka Tano, or one of the other few remaining Jedi around during the New Republic era – Ezra Bridger could be a possible tutor, too – then Grogu’s future is at risk.

Luke Skywalker Feared Grogu’s Attachments Would Make Him Misuse His Power

When Luke trains Grogu duringThe Book of Boba Fett, he tries to impress the importance of balance, light, and life on Grogu. To a certain extent, it seems like Grogu knows, or at the very least understands, what Luke is talking about – his skills certainly improve quickly as a result of Luke’s training, and before Din Djarin makes a surprise appearance, there are no distractions. That all changes when Grogu senses Din, however. He’s too attached, and Luke notices.

Fear, anger, jealousy, grief, and despair are all powerful dark side emotions, and Grogu has felt all of them throughout his relationship with Din Djarin.

The Jedi Order’s rules against attachment were understandable, though not always enforceable or applicable to every single individual Jedi. On the whole, though, the rule warned against the negative emotions that dependent attachments can bring forth. Fear, anger, jealousy, grief, and despair are all powerful dark side emotions, and Grogu has felt all of them throughout his relationship with Din Djarin. That’s the reason Grogu was so drawn to the Force’s power, why he wanted to learn how to control his gifts. With that power, he can protect Din and everyone else he cares about.

That’s a noble goal, but as theStar Warsprequel trilogy made clear, sometimes, the Force isn’t enough to protect everyone, and being attached to people can lead to extreme bouts of anger, fear, and frustration.Right now, Grogu is in danger of becoming exactly like Anakin Skywalker - loyal and loving to a fault. What if Grogu loses Bo-Katan? What if Grogu loses Din? What will happen to him then? Will the grief drive him to the dark side, just like what happened to Anakin?

Will Grogu Fall To The Dark Side?

Unfortunately, there’s a good chance that Grogu will, at the very least, be tempted by the dark side. The galaxy is becoming more dangerous by the day. Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Nightsisters have returned, as seen inAhsoka, and Project Necromancer, the initiative trying to create a Force-sensitive clone for Emperor Palpatine, is still in full swing.Grogu and Din Djarin will always be in danger, and as long as Din is in danger, Grogu will try to protect him.

Grogu’s story will continue inThe Mandalorian & Grogu, set to be released on August 07, 2025.

Grogu is already powerful – his being able to shield himself, Din, and Bo-Katan from an enormous explosion inThe Mandalorianseason 3proved that beyond a doubt – and the more powerful he becomes, the more tempting the dark side becomes, especially if it will help him protect Din. Tragically, as long as Din is in Grogu’s life, Grogu will never truly be safe from the dark side. Ahsoka and Luke both recognized the signs. Anakin Skywalker may not have been able to save himself from the darkness, but hopefully, Grogu’s future can still be saved asThe Mandaloriansaga continues.
