The trailer escalates abruptly, as Purnell’s character of Rhiannon Lewis is introduced in two shots, the first of which she is sitting innocently on a bus, and the latter of whichsees her in a bathroom with blood-soaked clothing. As the trailer alternates between this bloody imagery and more quotidian glimpses at the character’s everyday life, Rhiannon is heard in voiceover saying “people don’t really see me” and mentions “lately, I’ve been getting really angry.” Rhiannon then clarifies that she indeed means “really angry” while screaming into the camera.

Why Sweetpea Is A Show To Watch Out For This Fall

Even from the brief glimpse atSweetpearevealed in this trailer, the show has glimpses of being a shocking ride and an interesting character study.Akin to something like HBO’sLove & Death,Sweetpeaseems to explore the cracks in an ostensibly unsuspecting character. Exploring the real-life story of housewife-turned-murderer Candy Montgomery,Love & Deathwas successful in showing the psychological toiling of its lead as well as the community’s shock. IfSweetpeatakes on a similar energy, the show could be propelled to success as it hits the small screen this fall.

Another thing thatSweetpeahas going for it is havingPurnell in the lead role. The actor has become a bigger name in recent months as a result of her starring role as Lucy inFalloutseason 1, giving her a bigger draw.Fallout’s reviews were positive, and the show was recently granted multiple Emmy nominations, likely drawing more people to watch this show.Fallout’s success is also good forSweetpea, as if more people watch the Prime Video series, they are all the more likely to be interested in Purnell’s future roles.

I Find Ella Purnell’s Emmys Snub After Her 94% Rotten Tomatoes Hit Show Totally Baffling

Ella Purnell rarely misses, which her recent hit series with an impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes proves — so why the 2024 Emmy Awards snub?

There is also just an inherent appeal toSweetpea’s plot approach that could elevate the project. Rather than a sinister, ruthless killer, theyoung-adult-woman-turns-unhinged plotlineprovides a more unique take on the crime genre. Between the interesting plot structure, unique main character, and strong choice of lead actor,Sweetpeamay be the series to watch out for as it releases in October.
