One ofStardew Valley’smost neglected NPCs can finally get a well-deserved house upgrade thanks to a newly discovered mod. Tucked away in Cindersnap Forest is a run-down abandoned house where the Hat Mouse resides. The NPC offers fans headwear, and the offerings expand as players unlock different achievements, with42 different hatstotal to purchase while playing.

These hat offerings are one way in-game to see how much progress a player has made toward achieving perfection, but the adorable hat retailer is one NPC players feel ConcernedApe has overlooked.

A Reddit thread fromavatarroku157was filled with comments from users wanting to give the Hat Mouse an upgraded shop, asking ConcernedApe to dedicate a little attention to the abandoned house in his next big update for the farming sim. But as pointed out in the comments of the post, there’s already a mod that expands the Hat Mouse’s shop - and players don’t have to wait for the next update.

The “Hat Shop Restoration” mod from NexusMods userPeacefulEnddoes exactly what this Reddit user is requesting. With this mod installed, players will have the option toupgrade the Hat Mouse’s home at Robin’s carpentry shop, offering different recolored hat options using Fashion Sense. Instead of a fee of gold coins for recoloring, this Hat Mouse will gladly accept some cheese instead.

Restoring The Hat Mouse’s Shop Is Reasonable With This Mod

There’s Another Mod To Make The Hat Mouse A New NPC

According to the mod’s description, Robin will only require250 wood, 10 cloth, and 10,000 gold to upgrade the Hat Mouse’s home to a fully-fleshed shop- a reasonable price considering the cost of some other community upgrades. The Hat Mouse will have set hours once the building is upgraded, but it’s a small concession to make to ensure the rodent’s headgear is better protected from the elements.

Bizarre Stardew Valley Bug Results In A Feature That Should Be Made Official

A lucky Stardew Valley player shares an incredibly rare bug that is so fun it should be made into an official feature in a future update.

This isn’t the only mod players can install to expand upon the Hat Mouse lore. From NexusMods user ichortower, the mod “Hat Mouse Lacey - NPC” introduces Lacey, the rodent running the shop out of the abandoned building in Cindersnap Forest. She becomes a full-fledged NPC, complete with different outfits and a dialogue portrait - and for those who are so inclined, she is, in fact, a marriage candidate.

The Mods Inspiration Came From A Now Deleted Reddit Post

Was The Hat Mouse Really Named Lacey?

This mod was inspired by a comment on anow-deleted Reddit postthatsuggested the Hat Mouse was actually named Lacey. With the mod installed, the abandoned house is spruced up, becoming a residence players can enter once Lacey’s shop is open. Her simple abode comes with a fireplace and kitchen, as well as a section that’s dedicated to her hat curation, and of course, her different outfits are all adorned with unique hats.

Though the hat-loving rodent may not have been given the fan-requested TLC in the 1.6 update forStardew Valley, there’s stillplenty of modded content readily available for players to utilize.Whether or not they choose to have a fashion-forward mouse as their spouse, though, is entirely up to them and their choice of mod installations. Who knows - maybe this content can serve as inspiration for future updates to the well-loved farming sim.
