Summary

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Inquisitors #2!The Jedi faced the most crushing defeat inStar Warshistory with Order 66, as Palpatine not only succeeded in reorganizing the Republic into the Empire while turning the galaxy against the Jedi, but he used the Clone army to execute nearly all of them at once. The Jedi were eradicated, both literally and in terms of public perception, meaning even those that survived were left without hope - including Yoda. However, that’s not entirely the case, as Star Wars names the one Order 66 survived who believed in the Jedi when evenYodagave up hope.

InStar Wars: Inquisitors#2 by Rodney Barnes and Ramon Rosanas,a Jedi survivor named Tensu Run is taking a stand against the Inquisitorsafter they murdered his master along with a handful of other Jedi survivors that were a part of Run’s newly-formed resistance against the Empire. Tensu Run challenges the Fifth Brother to one-on-one lightsaber combat, and after slicing off his left arm, Run sends the Inquisitor back to Darth Vader to deliver a message, one that conveyed Tensu Run’s commitment to destroying the Empire.

Tensu Run established himself as the most dangerous Jedi survivor to the Empire, as he wasted no time in forming a Jedi resistance while the Empire was still young. That’s why Darth Vader stressed the importance of finding and killing Tensu Run to his Inquisitors, as Run could very well succeed in leading a charge that would see the Empire meet its early defeat.

I Finally Understand Leia’s Real Motivation to Defeat Palpatine in the Original Trilogy

Leia Organa was one of the main reasons the Rebellion was successful in defeating the Empire, but her real motivations were kept secret - until now.

Tensu Run was Star Wars’ ‘New Hope’ Before Luke Skywalker

Long before Luke Skywalker joined the Rebel Alliance and trained in the ways of the Jedi, Tensu Run had already made a name for himself as the galaxy’s ‘new hope’. Run was freeing prisoners from Imperial prison camps, he was toppling Imperial outposts, and he even formed a Jedi resistance. Plus, Tensu Run even admitted that if he were to fall, the Jedi would still rise to the occasion and defeat the Empire, which is a level of faith that is beyond himself, and effectively opened the door for the next ‘hope’ for the galaxy, Luke Skywalker.

Indeed, Tensu Run was probably the only Jedi in the galaxy at that time that hadn’t given up hope, even after witnessing the horrors of Order 66 first-hand - and that includes Yoda. Yoda decided to go into self-imposed exile to cope with the shame of allowing the Jedi to fall in the first place, and while he later redeemed himself by training Luke Skywalker, he could have done so far earlier if he had stood with Tensu Run when he and the other Jedi survivors needed him most.

Yoda Could Have Helped Tensu Run’s Jedi Resistance Defeat the Empire

Alone, Tensu Run is proving to be a major thorn in the Empire’s side, so much so that even Darth Vader himself is afraid of the damage he could do. There’s a reason Run is Public Enemy #1 during this period in Star Wars canon, as he is giving hope to the hopeless while rallying the surviving Jedi and, indeed, the rest of the galaxy against the Empire. If Yoda had joined him, then they could have potentially fully unified every surviving Jedi and launched a full-scale attack against the Empire - and they may have even come out on top.

Unfortunately, however,Yodahad completely given up hope at this point, and he was incapable of fighting for what he believed was a lost cause. But just because Yoda didn’t believe in the Jedi anymore following Order 66 doesn’t mean every Jedi stopped believing, andStar Warsofficially names the one Order 66 survivor who kept that hope alive during the darkest moment in the Jedi’s history, Tensu Run.
