The upcoming show encounter betweenSpider-Manand Daredevil in theMarvel Cinematic Universegets addressed by the Marvel series' showrunner. In 2021, the MCU got close to finally having Daredevil and Spider-Man team-up, as Charlie Cox showed up for a memorable cameo inSpider-Man: No Way Home, but as Matt Murdock, to help Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Almost four years later, the MCU is about to see Cox’s Daredevil crossing paths with Spider-Man in the newYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manseries.

As theYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manseries premiere is happening this week,ScreenRantinterviewed showrunner Jeff Trammell, where he discussed Cox playing a new Daredevil variant in the MCU, since the animated series doesn’t take place on Earth-616. When asked about what he was most excited about in terms of getting to feature Cox’s Daredevil,Trammell stated that it was the opportunity to show a more experienced Matt Murdock alongside a newer Spider-Man, sharing the following:

Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in Peter Parker’s home in Spider-Man No Way Home

Jeff Trammell: I think just leaning into that experience level - the fact that our Spider-Man is kind of starting out, and we have this Daredevil who’s more experienced, a little more veteran, may have answers to questions that Peter hasn’t even begun asking yet, is really fun to me. And feeling that almost big brother/little brother [dynamic] between them. So yes, it’s really fun. And then I think just getting to delve into a little more of the comedy in that character as well, like having him be a little more jokey, I think is super fun. But also seeing Peter test himself against someone like Daredevil, and it also meant a lot to me that we get to do, under Marvel Studios, the first kind of meeting of those two characters, not as Peter Parker and Matt Murdock, but as Spider-Man and Daredevil, is just a really cool opportunity that we were able to, hopefully, knock out of the park for the fans.

What Jeff Trammell’s Daredevil Comments Mean For The MCU Show

Throughout Spider-Man’s Marvel Comics history,Peter’s dynamic with Daredevil has always been one of the relationships that stands out, which is why MCU fans have been vocal about wanting to see Cox and Holland together more on the screen. Trammell is correct thatYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manwill be the first time in the MCU that the web-crawler and the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen will meet each other in costume. Even ifSpider-Man: No Way Homeestablished that Matt knew Peter’s true identity, his client had no idea Daredevil himself was his lawyer.

TheYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manstoryfeaturing a “veteran” Daredevil versus a Spider-Man that is just starting out allows the show to delve into their dynamic in a different way to the mainline MCU, too. That won’t take away anything between Daredevil and Spider-Man in the MCU down the line in the main continuity, especially if Cox ends up actually being inthe MCU’sSpider-Man 4. If anything, the MCU audience gets to see two unique depictions of Spider-Man and Daredevil at the same time, without one conflicting with the other.

Our Take On Jeff Trammell’s Daredevil Comments

From Trammell’s tease about Daredevil’s role inYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,it will be exciting to see how Cox’s beloved MCU hero works in the world of animation, as this will be the first time he gets to portray the character in a non-live-action context. With moreDaredevil crossovers in the MCUbeing fully possible after all the Marvel-Netflix shows were made canon to the franchise, it seems in many ways the fun is just getting started. That said, to find out how Daredevil fits into theSpider-Manshow, fans will have to catchYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manwhen it releases.

The first two episodes ofYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manpremiere Wednesday, January 29, only on Disney+.
