However, during their excavation, the ex-Red Lanterns are overcome with sadness thanks to the arrival of Sorrow.
Sorrow uses his empathetic powersto make everyone around him grieve and cry.But interestingly enough, Green Lantern Kilowog seems immune. Sorrow is confused at how Kilowog manages to resist Sorrow’s empathetic abilities, but Kilowog says he accepted sorrow being a fact of life years ago.

At one point in his life, Kilowog was one of the most brilliant minds on his home planet of Bolovax Vik. Despite the honor of being chosen for the Green Lantern Corps, it hurt Kilowog to leave his home. But that pain only grew worse when his planet was destroyed. Kilowog did manage to save his people’s life energies and disperse them on another planet, but that planet was also destroyed, leaving Kilowog the only one of his kind.Kilowog has since devoted his life to the Green Lantern Corps, where he’s met and lost a great number of allies.
As sad as it is to say, it seems like all the tragedy has shaped Kilowog in such a way that Sorrow, a Lantern who taps into the raw feeling of emotional pain, can’t do anything more to the Green Lantern. Kilowog has lost his people, lost his friends, and even lost his life on several occasions. Those experiences haven’t hardened him, but they’ve taught Kilowog that sadness simply is life and there’s no use fighting it. As tragic as that is, that might be the secret weapon the Green Lanterns need to defeat this new emotional enemy.

So far, nothing has been able to stop Sorrow, making him a real threat as he and Starbreaker work together to create a new Central Power Battery. But thanks to the life Kilowog’s lived, Sorrow now has a weak spot. This could be key for the Green Lanterns going forward, as Sorrow is incredibly new, and they haven’t yet found a way to counteract his empathetic power, but Kilowog is perfect for the job. He may have lived one of the harshest lives in theGreen Lantern Corps, but Kilowog might be giving his allies a fighting chance.
