With nearly a year gone since the movie’s release, co-writer Jen D’Angelo offers an intriguing response to a potentialTotally Killer 2. The 2023 horror-comedy revolved around a teenager who, after her mother is murdered by the local legend known as the Sweet 16 Killer, finds a way to travel back in time and team up with the younger version of her mom and her friends to try and stop the original killing spree. Led by Kiernan Shipka, Olivia Holt, Charlie Gillespie and Liana Liberato,Totally Killerwas a hit with criticson release, landing an 87% “Certified Fresh” approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
During a recent interview withScreen Rantfor her Emmy-nominated work onQuiz Lady, D’Angelo was asked about the possibility of aTotally Killersequel. Though the co-writer acknowledged she has not had any official talks with director Nahnatchka Khan about a follow-up, she is keen to make one happen, as she would “work with her to the ends of the earth” and thinks there’s “definitely ripe territory” for a sequel to happen. Oh my gosh, I mean, there have not been talks, but I love Nahnatchka Khan, who directed Totally Killer. She’s incredible, so I would work with her to the ends of the earth. So, if she wanted to do a sequel, I would be so thrilled to get in there. I mean, no spoilers — click away if you don’t want a spoiler — but there is an extra time machine out there. We’ve got a lot of kids back in the ’80s who were messed up inadvertently by it. There’s definitely ripe territory for a sequel. But yeah, that was just such a fun world to play in, and collaborating with Sasha and David, the other two writers on it. I love that movie, it’s so fun.
How Totally Killer 2 Could Happen
As D’Angelo notes,theTotally Killerendingdid leave enough room for a potential sequel. Though Shipka’s Jamie did successfully make it back to the present day and stop the Sweet 16 Killer in the past, this did also leave one of two time machines in the ’80s for anybody to use should they discover it. While the Sweet 16 Killer was generally deemed a menace to Jamie’s small town, it could also lead to someone being inspired to revive their legacy, be it in the past or present.

The other major thread left open from theTotally Killerending for a sequel is the notebookLauren put together for Jamie to inform her about the major changes to the present timeline after her journey to the past, one of which includes Chris. At the start of the film, he was a podcaster covering the Sweet 16 Killer’s legacy in the town, though was later revealed to be a second masked killer looking to restart his killing spree to create new content. During his trip to the past, Chris also murdered his own father in front of the younger version of himself.
The notebook shown intheTotally Killerending reveals that the new-present-day version of Chris has traveled to an Indian monastery to become a monk after being traumatized by the sight of his older self killing his dad, with Lauren keeping tabs on him “just in case”. Though this could be a point of reverse character development, the sequel could certainly find him returning to Vernon to use the time machine to undo the events of the first movie, including his father’s death, which could also see the revival of one or more Sweet 16 Killers.

Totally Killer is a 2023 comedy horror film by director Nahnatchka Khan (Always Be My Maybe) created for Prime Video. Jamie, a seventeen-year-old, plans to head out for Halloween night thirty-five years after the murder of her mother’s three friends by a serial killer. When Jamie ignores her mother’s pleas and heads out for the night, she becomes targeted by the infamous “Sweet Sixteen Killer.” However, the chase ends with her being sent back in time to the year it all began- and now Jamie will have to team up with her teenage mother to stop the killer and return home before it’s too late.
