Although Kirby Reed’s appearance inScream 6was a welcome return, it unfortunately led to a disappointing final fight scene. Despite her limited screen time, Kirby’s return to theScream Franchisewas essential following theabsence of Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, which left Gale Weathers as the only legacy character to feature in the film. Besides acting as a familiar face for audiences, she didn’t have much of a purpose in the film.Kirby was in the film to act as a suspect, but anyone who has seenScream 4would know Kirby wasn’t capable of cold-blooded murder.
As well as this, Kirby’s actions in the film meant thatGale missed the final fight for the first time everin the history of the franchise. Although she acted as a friendly face for the members of the ‘core four’, especially by bonding over horror movies with Mindy, she ultimately made life harder for the characters. Kirby’s return meant that she was putting herself in the list of suspects to be the Ghostface killer, making it difficult for Sam and Tara to trust her, while also making herself a walking target forthe real Ghostface killer.

Kirby’s Return Meant Gale Missed The Final Fight For The First Time In A Scream Movie
Kirby Used Her Power As An FBI Agent To Stop Gale From Interfering In The Investigation
Scream 6gaveGale Weathers the least amount of screen time of any movie, because of KirbyReed. Gale only appeared in three scenes throughout the whole movie. When Gale began to help with the Ghostface investigation, Kirby used her position as an FBI agent to command Gale to leave it to the professionals. Because of this, Gale went back to her apartment, where theGhostface killer was waiting for her and attacked Galein the best scene of the whole movie. However, this meant that Gale was put in hospital, unable to join in the final fight scene.
The fight scene between Gale and Ghostface was a showdown that the audience had been waiting years for. The intense scene lasted around seven minutes. For the first time since the franchise began, Gale was able to have a conversation and speak to Ghostface on the phone. Unfortunately, the fight resulted in Gale becoming extremely close to death, leaving her out of commission for the rest of the film. Audiences didn’t get to see Gale in the hospital, but they were given updates that she was alive and in a stable condition. This wouldn’t have happened if Kirby hadn’t sent Gale home.

Kirby Was Painted To Be A Suspect But She Was Obviously Innocent
Anyone That Has Seen Scream 4 Would Know Kirby Is Not A Cold-Blooded Killer
AlthoughScream 6was lacking legacy characters,Kirby Reed was the obvious choice to return, as she is one of the very few living charactersleft in the franchise. The problem with Kirby’s return was painting her to be a suspect for the Ghostface killings. Audiences that have watchedScream 4film will know that Kirby would never be capable of murder, so even the suggestion that she could be the Ghostface killer was laughable. There was no cause to doubt her, and she didn’t seem suspicious throughout the film, apart from the ominous camera shots from time to time.
[Kirby] working closely with the shifty Wayne Bailey just made more suspicion fall onto him
As well as this, having her paired up, working closely with the shifty Wayne Bailey just made more suspicion fall onto him. Wayne went out of his way to conduct background checks on Kirby after she was getting closer to the truth, making him seem more untrustworthy, as he shouldn’t have to check up on her if she was doing a good job. Althoughit was revealed that Kirby was suspended from the FBI,and therefore shouldn’t be involved in the investigation, audiences still didn’t doubt her, as there was so much trust and admiration built up for the character.
Kirby Didn’t Do Much In The Final Fight
Kirby Was Shot Towards The Start Of The Fight, Leaving Her Unable To Fight Ghostface
At the beginning of the final fight, Sam was starting to doubt Kirby, believing her to be the Ghostface killer. However, Wayne was getting bored with the guessing games, so he took out his handgun and shot Kirby, making her unable to fight throughout the rest of the final fight scene. Audiences were excited for Kirby’s return to theScream franchise. The fact that she was unable to fight in the final scenes was a huge disappointment.Kirby only regained consciousness right at the end of the fight, with enough time to push the TV on Ethan’s head, killing him.
The Scream Movies Wasted An Exciting Ghostface Reveal By Repeating A 26-Year-Old Twist
Quinn Bailey had so much potential to be one of the best Ghostface killers in the Scream films, but she was overshadowed for many different reasons.
This means that both Gale and Kirby were unavailable to participate in the final fight because of Kirby’s actions. As well as this, Mindy and Chad were both unable to fight because of their own injuries, leaving just Sam and Tara to fight the three Ghostface killers (one of which was a cop) alone, leaving for a completely unrealistic final fight scene. Ultimately, Kirby’s appearance inScream 6would have been a lot more interesting and had more of an impact if it didn’t cause so many issues and limitations for the final fight at the end of the film.
