The Writer is Prioritizing the Man of Steel
For those unfamiliar, Spider-Boy is a Marvel character introduced in 2023 in Slott’s Spider-Man series and later appeared inEdge of Spider-Verse. Bailey Briggs was once a normal kid until he was kidnapped and genetically spliced with a spider. Bailey managed to escape and was taken under Spider-Man and Daredevil’s wings. However, Bailey’s existence was completely forgotten about following “End of the Spider-Verse”, forcing the young man to try and rebuild his life and re-forge his connections. In a surprise to many,Spider-Boy got his own self-titled series that followed Bailey, which has been going strong for nearly two years.
While some may findSpider-Boy’scancelation disappointing, Slott makes it clear that ending the Marvel series was his choice. He noted that DC had approached him multiple times about writing Superman and that Slott had to finally say yes. However, Slott expressed gratitude for everyone who was involved along the way, from the creative team, to editorial, and especially the fans who supported the series over the last couple of years. It’s undoubtedly hard for Slott to end a series he was clearly passionate about, but italso allows him to put greater focus on his upcoming Superman series.
