Harry Potter: Quidditch Championsis finally adapting the beloved titular sport for a modern audience, the first Quidditch-focused game sinceHarry Potter: Quidditch World Cupon the Gamecube. Players around the world will be able to take to the skies on their brooms as Beaters, Keepers, Seekers, and Chasers. However, while the rules of Quidditch have been kept mostly intact forQuidditch Champions, there have been a few alterations.
Quidditch Champions released on July 09, 2025 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

Perhapsthe biggest change inHarry Potter: Quidditch Championsis a tweak to how the Golden Snitch works. While players will still be able to zoom about on their brooms as theirfavorite wizards and witches from theHarry Potteruniverseor as their own customized character, they may be surprised to find it isn’t quite how they remember it from the books and films. However, the change is definitely for the better, as it helps make competitive play a lot easier.
Does Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions Have Microtransactions?
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions has a keen focus on multiplayer and character customization, so it seems like a game ripe for microtransactions.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions Has Changed How Many Points The Golden Snitch Is Worth
Players Only Get 30 Points For Catching The Golden Snitch
While in theHarry Potterbooks and films, catching the Golden Snitch rewards the team with 150 points and ends the game there and then, inHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions,it’s far less impressive.Instead of 150 points, players will only get 30 points for catching the Snitch, and it also won’t end the game. Instead, the match will resume, with the end goal being to either have the most points or be the first team to reach 100.
It’s a big change, one that will likely upset some fans as it is so different from the books. However, the change exists for a good reason, ascatching the Golden Snitch in theHarry Potteruniverse versus catching it in theQuidditch Championsgame is very different. Unlike the Seekers in theHarry Potterbooks and films, who must chase after an almost imperceptible flying ball that’s traveling at great speeds, those inQuidditch Championscan see and catch the Snitch far easier.

The Golden Snitch in the Harry Potter universe also has the ability to leave the stadium and go pretty far away, taking Seekers away from the main action, which isn’t possible in Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions.
Hogwarts Legacy Players Have One Cool Reason To Try Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions
Hogwarts Legacy players have been begging to play Quidditch, and Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions just gave them a reason to play the game.
The Golden Snitch Rule Change In Quidditch Champions Is Good
The Golden Snitch Being Worth 30 Points Is More Fair
The change to the Golden Snitch inHarry Potter: Quidditch Championsis a smart move, as it not only makes the other roles far more important but also ensures that weaker teams can’t win based on sheer luck. However,earning30 points makes catching the Golden Snitch still a viable strategy for winning and can completely turn the tide of a match, ensuring that the Seeker role is still a worthwhile position. It’s a far more balanced version of Quidditch that makes for an overall better competitive video game experience, even if it’s less lore-accurate.
It obviously wouldn’t work in theHarry Potteruniverse, however, as the Golden Snitch, only being worth 30 points, would practically ensure that Gryffindor, at least while Harry was around, would never win. Additionally, there have been instances of teams still losing a Quidditch match after catching the Golden Snitch because their team was down too many points. It’s clear why catching the Golden Snitch in the books and movies had a more dramatic and definitive result, while inHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions,it’s far more balanced.
