Kid and Law suffered devastating losses at the hands of Shanks and Blackbeard, respectively, Sabo finally recounted the events of the Levely and gave fans the first look atOne Piece’s true villain, Imu, andGarp stormed Pirate Island to save Koby and was forced to stay behind to do so.The Egghead arcis one ofOne Piece’s most dramatic arcs yet, and it’s great that it’s finally continuing.

What Happened In One Piece Episode 1123?

Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Satoshi Ito

InOne Pieceepisode #1123, “The World Shakes! The Straw Hats' Hostage Situation”, following a brief recap of recent events, the world reacted to Garp being defeated by the Blackbeard Pirates and Luffy being accused of taking Vegapunk hostage, with Luffy’s friends and family at Fusha Village having the strongest reactions to it all. As that was happening, islands around the world were hit with earthquakes and flooding to the point that many were destroyed, and the cause of it was revealed to be thatthe ocean level rose one meter after Imu destroyed Lulusia with the Mother Flare.

Back at Egghead, as the Marines prepared their massive invasion, York called the Five Elders that their deal was still in place about making her a Celestial Dragon if she handed them Punk Records and the Mother Flame. Since the World Government couldn’t reproduce the Mother Flame and York still had control of the Seraphim and the Pacifistas, the Five Elders were more than willing to maintain their arrangement. There was, however, a problem that York quickly revealed:the Straw Hats and their allies had defeated York and now planned to use her as a hostage to escape Egghead.

Sanji and Bonney in episode 1123

What Happened In One Piece Episode 1124?

Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Aimi Yamauchi

One Pieceepisode #1124, “Completely Surrounded! The Operation to Escape Egghead”, picked up where episode #1123 left off with the Straw Hats revealed to have come out on top over York. While the manga kept many of the details vague, theOne Pieceanime revealed that York was subdued by Robin before she could kill Vegapunk, Zoro defeated S-Hawk and S-Bear, and Nami subdued S-Shark after he was weakened by Sanji, and just like the manga, Luffy got S-Snake to depetrify her victims because S-Snake inherited Hancock’s feelings for him.

While York and the Seraphim were taken care of, Egghead was still surrounded by a massive Marine fleet, and York had sealed off the Frontier Dome, meaning no one could leave. Vegapunk and Atlas got to work on breaking through York’s security lock, though, and once that was taken care of, they could use Vegaforce-01 to carry the Thousand Sunny and everyone on it over the blockade and into the ocean. Following that,Luffy and everyone would head to Elbaph, the next island in the Grand Line, following their escape from Egghead, thus setting up the upcomingElbaph arc.

Bonney in the new opening

As Luffy, Franky, Bonney, and Lilith left to prepare the Sunny for their departure, Kizaru met with Saint Saturn and was told to go after Vegapunk ahead of the fleet; Kizaru’s Glint-Glint Fruit allowed him to bypass Egghead’s defenses, so he could launch an assault and destroy Egghead’s power station, thus allowing for a full-fledged invasion of the island. Sentomaru, putting his loyalty to Vegapunk above the Marines, and as he did,Luffy called out in shock that someone incredibly strong had just entered Egghead.

One Piece’s Anime Continues To Treat Sanji Poorly

Why One Piece Is Doing Wrong By Sanji

As great asOne Piece’s anime return was, one major sticking point washowOne Piece’s return adapted Sanji’s character. Not only did the anime cut Sanji out of the big group shot in episode #1123, but it also made Sanji look weaker than Zoro by having Zoro defeat two Seraphim while Sanji needed Nami to save him from one.One Piece’sanime has once again downplayed Sanji’s importance while simultaneously making Zoro look better than need be, and it’s still annoying that the anime continues to do that.

Worse than that, however, was how the episodes handled Sanji’s interactions with Bonney. The manga made a point of never having Sanji be girl-crazy with Bonney due to Bonney secretly being a child, but episode #1123 ignored that to have Sanji be his regular, girl-crazy self with Bonney, complete with hearts in his eyes. Sanji’s relationship with Bonney was supposed to be a reminder that he could still be a normal person around women, but unfortunately, theOne Pieceanime maintaining Sanji’s obsession with women around Bonney makes him look far worse than necessary, and overall, it’s impossible to defend.

One Piece Is Back And Better Than Ever

One Piece’s Return Was Worth The Wait

A lot was riding onOne Piece’s long-awaited return, and overall, it succeeded on every front. Not only is the story as great as ever, but the animation continues to be on point at every turn, with every scene filled with creative and all-around gorgeous visuals that were faithful to the manga while still adding even more life to it all.One Piece’s anime continues to be one of the best anime to watch, and it proves that the hiatus was all for the best.

Much of that can be owed toOne Piece’s new series director, Wataru Matsumi. While acclaimed director Tatsuya Nagamine is no longer running the show, Matsumi is plenty experienced in his own right, most notably directing Shanks’ one-sided defeat of the Kid Pirates, and sure enough, the great quality ofOne Pieceepisodes #1123 and #1124 proves that Wataru Matsumi was the perfect person to succeed Tatsuya Nagamine as series director. One Piece’s return has made it one of themost hotly-anticipated anime of 2025, and it will be great to watch it live up to that hype.

Be sure to watchOne Pieceepisode #1125 when it premieres on Sunday, April 13.
