Some fans may believe thatMy Hero Academia’sworst father is Enji Todoroki, the Pro Hero, Endeavor, and it is certainly easy to see why. Endeavor was abusive to his wife, Rei Todoroki, and his children, which certainly makes him one of the series' most detestable parents. However, one father inMy Hero Academiamay just be even more questionable than Endeavor is.

Hisashi Midoriya, Deku’s father, is an even worse father than Endeavor in some ways, because he was almost completely absent fromMy Hero Academia’sstory, as if he never even existed at all.Deku’s father never made an onscreen appearancein the series, even though Horikoshi did hint that he would one day, leaving the hero’s other parent and Inko’s husband a complete mystery.

Hisashi Midoriya Is an Even Worse Father Than Endeavor

He Was Completely Absent From Deku and Inko’s Lives, Never Even Appearing in the Series

Deku’s mother, Inko Midoriya, is incredibly involved in his life and career as a hero, but his father, Hisashi, took the opposite approach, puzzling fans with his complete absence inMy Hero Academia.During all the major moments of Deku’s life, such as finding out he was Quirkless at the doctor, receivinghis One For All Quirk from All Might, getting accepted in U.A. High, fighting major villains, and more, Hisashi was not present and, based on what was shown in the series, did not even communicate with his son or offer any words of congratulations on his accomplishments.

My Hero Academia: Previous Users of One for All Explained

My Hero Academia’s One for All is a power that’s passed from one person to another, but who held this power before Midoriya and All Might?

It was revealed inMy Hero Academiathat Hisashi’s job requires travel, which took him away from Japan and his family for most of Deku’s life, but it still seems odd that he did not reach out to his family at any time and also is rarely mentioned by either Deku or Inko. As pointed out in a Reddit thread by fanu/No-Chemistry-4673, when Deku was on the verge of death and looking back on his life, both his mother, Inko, and All Might came to mind, but Hisashi was never mentioned, seeming to hint that the relationship between them is strained at best and nonexistent at worst.

Fans Have Created Theories About Hisashi to Explain His Absence

These Potential Explanations Range From Hisashi’s Death to Horikoshi Not Having Time to Finish His Arc

Many fan theories exist surroundingDeku’s father and his insignificant roleinMy Hero Academia.A handful of viewers believe that he is no longer aliveand passed away sometime early on inMy Hero Academia’stimeline, but it does seem unlikely, since an event as life-altering as his dad’s death seems like something Deku would have at least mentioned.Horikoshi intended on expanding Hisashi’s story at some point, but sinceMy Hero Academiais such a complex story with hundreds of characters, there might just not have been the time and space to write Hisashi the character arc he deserved.

Either way, it is abundantly clear that Hisashi is not a major part of Deku’s life, making him almost as harmful of a father as Endeavor was. Deku accomplished so many impressive feats, such as gaining entrance to U.A. High, one of the most prestigious hero programs in Japan, and helping save the world by battling Shigaraki and All For One. Inko was constantly by Deku’s side, either physically or in support, cheering him on and offering support, but Hisashi did none of this, seemingly not even interacting with his son or wife. Thankfully,Deku had Inko’s unconditional love and All Might’s mentorship to guide him.

Inko and All Might Were Motivational Figures in Deku’s Life in Hisashi’s Absence

Even Though His Father Was Not Around, Deku Was Never Without Support and Love

Deku was never without encouragement, sinceAll Might helped fill the role his father did not and Inko was always very upliftingand, at times, even somewhat overbearing in making sure Deku stayed safe. Inko even almost made Deku leave the Hero Course when she was terrified he would be hurt by a villain and confronted All Might directly, proving how intensely she cares for her son. All Might is also a constant presence in Deku’s life, motivating him to be his best and work hard and even giving him the Quirk that kickstarted his hero career.

My Hero Academia: Endeavor Isn’t As Redeemable As The Manga Makes It Seem

My Hero Academia has been slowly pushing a redemption arc for pro hero Endeavor, but fans aren’t buying into the idea of redemption for this abuser.

There is no denying that Enji Todoroki is a horrible father who caused unspeakable damage to every member of his family, both physically and emotionally.Endeavor did eventually have a redemption arctowards the end of the story, which was a step in the right direction but does not erase the pain he caused. The story ended with Endeavor making strides to be better, while Hisashi was still absent, making Hisashi worse than Endeavor in some regards. It is a disappointment that fans will probably never know what became of Deku’s father, but theMy Hero Academiahero still had many other motivational people in his life despite his dad’s absence.
