In arecent interview with Marvel, Kohei Horikoshi finally broke the silence on his plans for the future, revealing that he isplanning to start a new manga series as soon as possible.Horikoshi admitted to feeling pressure surrounding his next move given the massive success ofMy Hero Academia,but revealed that he has already slowly started writing and drawing the designs for his next manga.

Celebrating the release of volume 42 of My Hero Academia, Kohei Horikoshi recently partook in an art exchange with Marvel artists Edgar Delgado and Humberto Ramos, answering a few questions as part of the collaboration. By far the most interesting tidbit is where Horikoshi opens up about his plans for the future, revealinghe does intend to create a new manga series.

“I feel really lucky over the success ofMHA, so I know there’s a lot of pressure around my next move. I’m planning to start a new manga as soon as I possibly can.

Furthermore, Horikoshi reveals he was initially planning only to provide the art for his next series, leaving the story to someone else. However, his editor suggested he handle both the story and the art himself. Taking the advice, Horikoshi states he hasalready begun crafting a rough outline of his next manga.

I was thinking to committing myself to simply drawing my next project, and letting someone else write the story, but my editor advised me ‘It will be better if you do it all yourself.’ With that in mind, I’ve slowly started writing and drawing the thumbnails of my next manga. However, there are still several events left surroundingMHA, so for a while I’ll still be committed to supporting and promoting it.”

It is still unclear what kind of series Horikoshi’s next manga will be, but given the exceptional writing ofMy Hero Academiaand Horikoshi’s unrivaled skill as an artist that has been honed over the last decade, whatever he chooses to create next will surely be worth keeping an eye out for. As Horikoshi states, it will likely be some time until his next manga releases, asMy Hero Academia’sfranchise still has plenty left to wrap up, such as the final season of the anime as well as many events such as an exhibition and a fanbook slotted for 2025.
