Monster Hunter Wilds Review: Heading In A Bold New Direction, With One Or Two Missteps

Monster Hunter Wilds is a lushly beautiful and ceaselessly thrilling entry in the series, but its performance and on-rails story can be distracting.

The Quematrice is found roaming this area alone, so you don’t have to worry about packs of the Wyvern. The game will inform you if a Quematrice is present in the area and, therefore, available to hunt. The second location in which you can find Quematrice is Wyveria. This map area is unlocked after a few hours of gameplay, so you’ll need to progress through the campaign a fair amount before reaching it. However, at this point, hunting Quematrice may seem like a dull task, especially with the possibility of taking down creatures like Nu Udra inMonster Hunter Wilds.

How To Defeat Quematrice In Monster Hunter Wilds

Exploit Weak Points & Use Strategies To Beat The Brute Wyvern

While the Quematrice isn’t too much of a menacing foe, you may face some problems if you start the hunt ill-prepared. The first thing to know about the creature is that Quematrice is a specialist in using Fireblight. This debuff could set your hunter on fire and, subsequently, cause them to continuously lose health. There are some ways of removing Fireblight if you are affected by it: either roll around by using the evade action a few times or consume a Nulberry, which removes the condition. Quematrice’s Fireblight activation can be seen before it happens inMonster Hunter Wilds.

10 Mistakes Everyone Makes While Playing Monster Hunter Wilds

With Monster Hunter Wilds streamlining the overall gameplay experience, there are plenty of common mistakes that even veteran hunters can make

This is because the Brute Wyvern can spread a flammable substance and ignite it with its tail. If you see it spread anything, try to quickly move out of its range. The Quematrice’s moves are fairly well-telegraphed, so you’ll be able to predict when it is going to swing its tail to ignite a Fireblight explosion or when it is going to slam you. Unlike the Chatacabra, which mainly uses its head to attack, the Quematrice ups the challenge, consistently attacking with both its beak and its tail. This will require you to study positioning inMonster Hunter Wilds.

If you’re using ranged weapons, you’ll have less to worry about – with the exception of its tail’s long reach – but if you are using any type of melee weapon, you’ll want to step in close to attack, and then quickly move away as the Quematrice will try to retaliate at your position. When striking the Quematrice with your weapon, the best areas to attack are its head, neck, and tail. The head can be broken, but the most interesting thing to do is to try to sever its tail with a slicingweapon inMonster Hunter Wilds.

A slicing weapon with a larger reach, such as a Long Blade or a Great Sword, is a great choice to cut off its tail from a fairly safe distance.

If you sever its tail, its Fireblight will be weakened, which could make you more comfortable during the hunt. After this, prioritize breaking its head.Like the tail, Quematrice’s head is its weakest spot and it takes the most damage from slicing and blunt attacks, as well as ammo. The torso also sustains more damage than usual, though not as much as its head. Because of Quematrice’s Fireblight, I’d recommend not using weapons that deal that type of damage; it wouldn’t be entirely ineffective, but it would make your hunt longer than it needs to be.

If you’re still struggling with beating the Quematrice, attempt to use the SOS Signal to summon allies into the fight. Thanks to the crossplay function inMonster Hunter Wilds, you’ll be able to gather hunters from other platforms, too.

The best element to wield against the Quematrice is Water. This type of damage deals more damage to the Quematrice, especially when you strike its head with it. This type of damage can come in the form of water weapons and water ammo, for example. Most other elements are also effective against it, though not as much as water. The Quematrice is also particularly weak against the Poison status effect, so if you wield a weapon with this sort of damage, you can debuff it inMonster Hunter Wilds.

Knowing how the Quematrice operates and what it is weak against could enhance your hunting experience and cut down the time you invest in beating it. While a weapon that deals Fireblight may seem like a fun option – and it is – it’s best to set it aside for this hunt, for example.
