After playing Pedro Pascal’s brother in HBO’sThe Last of Us, Gabriel Luna addressed the possibility that the two could cross paths inthe Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pascalwill make his Marvel debut this summer inThe Fantastic Four: First Steps, where he will play Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic alongside Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/the Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch.

Luna, on the other hand, has been part of the MCU for a while. He first began playing Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider inAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.in season 4. Airing in 2016, Luna played the Marvel character for 10 episodes of the series. He has not appeared in the MCU since his tenure onAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D., however.

Screen Rant caught up with Luna at the 2025 South by Southwest premiere ofThe Astronaut, where the actor responded to the notion of reuniting with Pascal in the MCU:

Screen Rant:“Would you ever come back as Ghost Rider and team up with your Last of Us brother, Pedro Pascal, on screen?”

What Gabriel Luna’s Comments About Returning To The MCU Mean

Could Robbie Reyes Meet Reed Richards?

Luna’s excitement is actually a shift from his previous attitude towards returning as Ghost Rider.Once upon a time, the character was set to receive his own spinoff, but those plans never came to fruition. As a result, Luna considered his Marvel days behind him. However, Luna more recently toldForbeshe’d changed his mind:

“My stock answer used to be, ‘I loved what we did, I’m very happy with what we accomplished, and I can be happy leaving it on the shelf and admiring what we did and have the audience remember it fondly, the way they do. To do the character again just gives me another opportunity to screw it up.’ So there’s that mindset, but now I feel that I’m a lot more open should it come around.”

As for the likelihood Marvel will bring back the character, it’s harder to say. Marvel Studios' Brad Winderbaum hasteased the possibility of a new MCU Ghost Rider project, but he did not list Robbie Reyes as his ideal iteration of the character to return.

Interestingly, Winderbaum doesn’t want to bring in Johnny Blaze, previously brought to life by Nicolas Cage, either, but rather, he would prefer to give another character the chance to appear onscreen. He stated:“I would wanna do the Danny Ketch era of Ghost Rider. I think there are a lot of people who would be here for some Ghost Rider.”

Our Take On Gabriel Luna Returning To The MCU Alongside Pedro Pascal

Lots Of Marvel Television Characters Are Getting A Second Chance

Luna’s take on Robbie Reyes was a welcome addition toAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.that shook up the sorts of stories the show could tell. Though he hasn’t been in a Marvel project in about eight years, that’s not necessarily a barrier to returning to the franchise. On the film side,Deadpool & Wolverinebrought back previous Marvel stars such as Wesley Snipes and Jennifer Garner for small supporting roles.

Alternatively, Marvel Television brought back Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Jon Berthal’s Punisher in major roles years after their respective series were canceled. Is it likely that Luna will both return as Ghost Rider and get to interact with Reed? Not necessarily, but giventhe MCU’srecent history of bringing back actors from older projects, seeing more of Luna’s Ghost Rider isn’t out of the question.
