What A Renewal Would Mean For Mayor Of Kingstown

Questions Will Be Resolved

Mayor of Kingstownseason 4will have to pick up following thegame-changing deaths of Iris (Emma Laird) and Kareem Moore (Michael Beach), both of which occurred in the season 3 finale. Kareem’s death is more of a shock, while Iris' is more tragic, but they both significantly alter what comes next given their significance to the show. After losing his previously solid hold on the Anchor Bay prison, Kareem decides to end his life byessentially allowing the Aryan Brotherhood to murder him.

The finale, titled “Comeuppance”, was written by Erickson and directed by Christoph Schrewe.

While Kareem’s death happens after the character struggles in terms of his mental state, the demise of Iris unfolds on a similar but separate track. Iris seemingly takes her own life, a tragic end for a character that could have moved beyond the toxic influences of the titular town. In comments after the finale aired, however, co-creator Hugh Dillon clarified thatIris' death was not intentional. He said in part: “She didn’t take her life; it was an accidental overdose.”The absence of the character impacts Renner’s Mike McLusky, who does vanquish a few foes in the last episode.

The now-likely season 4 renewal means the introduction of new antagonists, while also delving deeper into whether Mike himself is going down the path of an antagonist…

There’s also some turmoil for the McLusky family, as Kyle gets into a showdown with Robert (Hamish Allan-Headley). It’s another quandary for Mike, and a thread that will likely be explored with a season 4 renewal. Although the deck is seemingly cleared, with significant villains removed, there are still lingering questions that can only be addressed with another installment of the series.
