Robert Pattinson’sBatmanjoining the newDC Universehas been considered. The actor is set to lead at least a trilogy in director Matt Reeves’The Batmanuniverse, which is an Elseworlds story separate from the DCU. Pattinson’s full focus at the moment when it comes to DC rests onThe Batman - Part II’s story, with Reeves currently writing the film’s script. Gunn and Reeves previously commented on the possibility that Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne could be folded into the DCU, and while that was shot down then, Gunn has a more interesting answer now, though still in line.
On theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast,James Gunn revealed that he contemplated having Robert Pattinson’s Batman in the DCUand explained his thoughts about Elseworlds stories.

DC has multiple Elseworlds projectsin different stages, with recent ones includingJoker: Folie à DeuxandSuperman & Lois. The Batmanuniverse is part of that banner, as it seems like Gunn and Reeves remain sure that Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne will be separate from David Corenswet’s Superman and other DC heroes, though the DCU’s creative chief did consider a different direction. Gunn thinks that doing both DCU and Elseworlds projects is exciting. Check out the full quote below:
“I’ve contemplated it, yeah. I contemplate everything. I talk about everything… I’d be an idiot not to think of how can this go or how can this go, but I’m committed to both telling stories in the DCU and telling Elseworlds stories.”

What James Gunn’s Robert Pattinson DCU Batman Comments Mean
The Brave And The Bold Is Batman’s DCU Debut
While Gunn revealed that he has considered the possibility of Robert Pattinson’s Batman joining the DCU, that is unlikely to ever happen. The reason for that is the choice might not be entirely up to Gunn. In December 2023,James Gunn explained whyThe Batmanwas separate from the DCU, saying,“It’s Matt’s choice, and we respect that.“As such, it seems like Matt Reeves wants to build out his corner of the live-action DC projects, dubbed The Batman Epic Crime Saga, without having to deal with other heroes and overarchingstories from the DCU.
The Batman 2’s Newest Story Details Can Fix My One Bruce Wayne Movie Problem
The Batman - Part II director Matt Reeves has revealed the first story details from the movie, and I believe a big Bruce Wayne problem will be fixed.
For now,The Batman - Part IIand its sequel should be all that is left for Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. As for the DCU’s Batman, the character will debut inThe Brave and the Bold. The movie will be directed byThe Flash’s Andy Muschietti. Though Gunn commented during the new interview that the Batman movie’s script still has to get where he would like it to be, some details have been revealed. The Bat-Family will be part of the DCU movie, with the Damian Wayne version of Robin co-starring alongside the new Bruce Wayne.

Our Thoughts On James Gunn’s Robert Pattinson DCU Batman Comments
While nothing Gunn has said indicates that the stance on Pattinson’s Batman remaining separate from the DCU will change, his new comments are the most positive about the subject they have ever been. I think it makes sense that Gunn would at least consider having Pattinson, whowould be perfect alongside David Corenswet’s Superman, join the DCU as Batman. Based on the new interview and his past comments about the ordeal, I think it is truly director Matt Reeves who has contributed to that not happening. Gunn sure seems more open to theBatmancrossover, so there is some hope.
