The Running Manremake gets a new tease from actor Colman Domingo, who teases director Edgar Wright’s new take. Marking the second adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel of the same name after a 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger,Wright’sThe Running Manremakefeatures Glen Powell in the lead role of Ben Richards, a falsely-convicted man who must compete in a deadly TV game show. Domingo was confirmed to be joining the remake’s cast in early January, with theSing Singactor reportedly playing the movie’s game show host.
During a recent interview withJosh Horowitzon theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast, Domingo teases some of what’s to come from Wright’sThe Running Manremake. While the actor is careful not to share too much, he does hype the movie’s impressive cast, in addition to seemingly revealing that his filming for the project has been completed. Whether filming for the entire movie is complete, however, remains unknown. Check out Domingo’s comment below:

“Dude, in Edgar’s hands, my God. I had such a good time. I was like, shot out of a canon—I had a blast! Especially with Glen Powell, and Josh Brolin, and Lee Pace, they’re all great dudes, we had a great time. And Edgar’s mind is so vast, and you just want to get inside his brain. The film itself is like sort of this dystopian, chaotic world where murder is the game show. And it feels… [chuckles] it feels timely. [laughs] You know? It feels like it has such a pulse. I’m excited for people to see it."
What Domingo’s Tease Means For The Running Man Remake
Will Edgar Wright’s Movie Be Better Than The Original?
As the director of movies likeShaun of the Dead(2004),Hot Fuzz(2007),The World’s End(2013), andBaby Driver(2017), Wright has a distinct directorial style. His movies are often briskly-paced and uniquely edited, in addition to featuring healthy doses of dark comedy. Domingo’s comment would suggest thatWright’s signature filmmaking style will be on full display in theRunning Manremake, meaning it could be quite a departure from director Paul Michael Glaser’s 1987 version.
Domingo’s comment could also suggest that Wright’s take onThe Running Manwill end up being better than Glaser’s. OnRotten Tomatoes, the 1987 movie has a 66% critics' score and a 61% audience score, which is a lukewarm result overall that certainly leaves room for improvement. Every single Wright movie from 2004 up toLast Night in Sohoin 2021has fared significantly better than this on Rotten Tomatoes, withShaun of the Deadremaining a highlight with scores of 92% and 93% from critics and audiences respectively.

Last Night In Sohowas a critical success, scoring 75% from critics and 89% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
Our Take On Domingo’s Running Man Tease
Wright’s Film Could Be More Than Just Another Hollywood Remake
TheRunning Manremake’s castalone makes the movie an interesting upcoming project, but Wright as director makes the movie especially exciting. It’s his involvement that suggests the movie will be more than just another Hollywood action movie, andit could end up sticking out from the large crowd of remakes and sequels.
AfterTop Gun: Maverick(2022),Hit Man(2023), andTwisters(2024), Powell certainly seems to have the leading-man charisma necessary to star in a remake ofThe Running Man. Domingo, too, while he may not be taking center stage in the upcoming film, has proven himself a very versatile actor, and he’s sure to be a great addition to the film.
