Elba first debuted as the red echidna warrior inSonic the Hedgehog 2, starting out as an enemy before realizing Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) had been tricking him in order to get his hands on the Master Emerald. He returned to his role in thecast ofKnuckles, a TV spinoff that dropped on Paramount+ in April 2024. The third theatrical film will also feature him in a prominent role on Team Sonic.

Joking about a possible fourth film, the actor said that he would be open to reprising his role in either a possibleSonic the Hedgehog 4, or evenKnucklesseason 2.
