From its placement in the series' timeline to its most prominent cast members,Dragon Ball Daimahas taken heavy inspiration from the iconic, yet divisive, Majin Buu Saga. Goku’s newest adventure takes the Saiyan through the previously unexplored Demon Realm with comrades both old and new, returning the series to its roots while also introducing fresh, exciting ideas. Placing one of the Buu Saga’s most underutilized characters, Shin, in a leading role,Daimaseems set to expand on the lore the original arc introduced, but never fully fleshed out.

However, in all the expanded lore, like the reveal that Namekians originated from the Demon Realm, or retcons likethe rewritten Buu origin story,Dragon Ball Daimahas hinted at one small and very familiar element, fusion. One of the Majin Buu Saga’smost lasting contributions to franchise history, fusion was first introduced with Gotenks, then Vegito, and only further popularized by Gogeta.

Daimaseems slated to be the newestDragon Ballproperty to travel down the road to fusion, after briefly introducing Join Bugs during its fourth episode. Of the characters currently involved in the series, one has joined together with the leading Saiyan already. And though all the ingredients for a Goku and Vegeta fusion are present in the Demon Realm, I’m almost certain the series will stray from its Buu Saga roots, and deliver an all-new fused fighter to the series.

Daima Is Gearing Up For an All-New Fusion

Dragon Ball’s Newest Fusion Might Be Between Two Unexpected Characters

While Vegeta has just arrived in the Demon Realm to join the fight, theSaiyan prince hasn’t been a part of the group dominating screen time. Instead, of the main cast, Goku and Shin have taken the spotlight while earning some new friends along the way. With fusion on the horizon, the series' decision to focus on the Supreme Kai is one that signals the possibility thatVegeta will not be Goku’s potara partner inDaima. Instead, the series seems to be suggesting a new Goku and Shin fusion.

Dragon Ball Daimahas revisited several previously established plot points and ideas already presented earlier in the franchise, but has put new spins on them. Now, in revisiting fusion, the new spin on the mechanic may just be a Goku and Shin fusion. While it may seem far-fetched, especially now that Vegeta is readily available to team up with, there are a few different reasons that the series may decide to join its protagonist and Supreme Kai.

Dragon Ball Daima Reveals the Supreme Kai’s Origins (and It Is Seriously Strange)

Dragon Ball Daima delved into just how the Supreme Kai and his species came to be, and the answer is truly bizarre, even for Dragon Ball.

The one pointing toward the possibility most is the increased focus on Shin, and neglect of Vegeta over the series' first nine episodes. However,Daimaalso cleverly hinted at a future fusion in its seventh episode, titled, “Collar”. While speaking with Panzy,Shin revealed that his real name was Nahare, before the episode shifted focus heavily onto her collar. It may seem insignificant on first watch, but by revealing his birth name,Shin sets up a potential fused name between himself and Goku.

Goku and Shin Won’t Be the First Saiyan and Kai Fusion

Fans might be a little skeptical at the idea of a Saiyan and Kai fusion, but it wouldn’t be the first of its kind.Dragon Ball Superintroduced the concept into the series with Goku Black and Zamasu. Despite Goku Black technically also just being Zamasu, it was the body of Goku that fused with the disgruntled Glind, and created the fan-favorite Fusion Zamasu. If the series truly wants to remain fresh while building on older concepts, then Shin would make the likeliest candidate for an upcoming fused warrior.

The joining of both characterswould also make for a largely unique fighting style, as one part of the fusion would be a Ki user, and the other would be a magic user. A combination of both techniques could lead to the introduction of more than a few interesting new moves. However, there is a rather large issue that lingers over the possibility of a Goku and Shin fusion, and one that may be the ultimate reason the series falls back on a Goku and Vegeta fusion.

A fan animation fuses Goku and Shin, creating a new character that could have heavy implications for the series going forward if it ever comes to pass

During the Buu Saga,Dragon Ballmade it a point that two fusing warriors had to be similar in power level in order to create an even stronger fighter. Shin, though capable,is nowhere near Goku in terms of raw strength. For the most powerful results, the best candidate remains Vegeta. But the possibility does exist that a Goku and Shin fusion might still be beneficial, if not for the strength boost, then to simply give Goku access to magic abilities.

It’s been established that King Gomah is a fearsome opponent not because he’s powerful, but because his magic is tricky. If Goku and company need a way to even the playing field, nothing could be better than the fusion between Earth’s strongest fighter and a magic user.

An All-New Kind of Fusion is Possible in Daima

Daima Has Hinted That Join Bugs Have a Unique Ability

The possibility also exists that a Goku and Shin fusion might not give a substantial enough power boost to deal with an enemy. If that becomes the case, the Join Bugs have a bit of a different ability that may prove useful to the heroes. When they originally appeared in Episode #4, a sign explaining the Bugs' abilityshowed an illustration with three fighters joining together.

A three-person fusion is all-new territory forDragon Ball, and opens up endless possibilities for combining strength. Goku, Vegeta, and Shin could fuse and create a Vegito with magical abilities. Or the iconic duo could fuse with Piccolo and complete a trio consisting of Goku and his two most iconic enemies turned friends.

Dragon Ball Daimahas been insistent on taking older concepts and breathing new life into them, and as the series has hinted already, fusion will be one of those elements receiving a face lift.At the moment, Shin seems the likeliest candidate, but until the time comes, fans will have to settle on dreaming up their own unique fused fighters. The newly introduced Kuu has just entered the fray, and future episodes will surely feature action-packed run-ins with the all-new Majin.
