Summary

WithTales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesexpanding the franchise’s roster, there are plenty of characters who could return, but I’m hopeful that the show’s best addition appears inMutant Mayhem 2.Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' castfeatures some big names, with the likes of Danny Trejo, Pete Davidson, Timothy Olyphant, and Alanna Ubach all joining the show. In addition, plenty of actors also reprised their roles fromMutant Mayhem, giving the series a whole host of memorable characters while proving the animatedTMNTseries has a lot of potential going forward.

Althoughstory details onMutant Mayhem 2are limited, the fact that it was greenlit quickly for a sequel highlights how popular the reception was. I was delighted to see the original movie get such positive reviews, and with the new spinoff series only continuing to expand on this new depiction of the turtles, I’m confident it could be one of the most successfulTMNTuniverses yet. However, in order to maximize the animated world’s potential, the franchise must utilize its best characters, making me all the more desperate to see one new character in theMutant Mayhemsequel.

These 3 Upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Projects Prove It’s A Great Time To Be A TMNT Fan

The three upcoming TMNT projects set for TV and the big screen highlight how adaptable the franchise has become over the years.

Rod Needs To Make An Appearance In TMNT Mutant Mayhem 2

Pete Davidson’s Rod Added Plenty Of Humor To The Mutant Mayhem Spinoff Show

Out of all the new charactersTales of the TMNTwelcomed, Rod was easily my favorite, and I’m hopeful he will appear in the turtles' next movie. Despite seeming like a lazy goof on the surface,Rod’s laid-back, chilled attitude quickly became endearingand his admiration for mutants makes him a standout addition to the cast. I really loved seeing his rapport with Michelangelo and watching him fanboy over the orange-masked turtle’s mutant powers. He also brought a level of fun and humor to every scene he was involved in, making him a prime candidate to return in the future.

WhileMutant Mayhem 2will likely introduce plenty of new characters, it still has to make way for Rod, since he fits the universe’s comedic tone and can be a valuable ally. Pete Davidson is no stranger to the acting world, and a regular voice acting role going forward could be something he’s into as long as his schedule permits it. The comedian and actor tends to do more cameo-based work rather than long-term commitments, but that would only make his recurring role as Rod feel more special, and I remain optimistic he can make it to the big screen.

What Rod’s Role Could Be In The Mutant Mayhem Sequel

Rod’s Wealth & Enthusiasm About Mutants Could Make Him A Valuable Ally In Mutant Mayhem 2

Rod’sMutant Mayhem 2role would have to be more limited than his involvement in theTMNTspinoff show, but he could still make a positive impact on the sequel. Giving Davidson a small cameo as Rod would probably be the best use of the character, as it would reward those who watchedTales of the TMNTwhile still adding a hilarious and likable character to the cinematic series. He may not be able to add much value from a combat perspective, butRod’s wealth could warrant his inclusion in the film and help the turtles execute an elaborate plan.

It wouldn’t be out of character for Rod to offer his support in exchange for some mutant-based favor, meaning he could show up to help the turtles and then have a brief appearance during the climax to receive his end of the bargain.

The Turtles in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem with Shredder added

The protagonists may be in need of new combat gear, weapons, or potentially a technologically advanced piece of equipment that they can’t afford on their own. However, knowing how wealthy Rod’s dad is, they could turn to theirTales of the TMNTally and bring him along for the ride. It wouldn’t be out of character for Rod to offer his support in exchange for some mutant-based favor, meaning he could show up to help the turtles and then have a brief appearance during the climax to receive his end of the bargain.

It would be difficult to give Rod another key supporting role, but I think the character has too much potential to simply be forgotten about after Paramount’s show. Announcing Pete Davidson as part of the cast would also add some star power to makeTMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2’s releaseeven more impactful, meaning the sequel will hopefully get the box office triumph it deserves. Therefore, I think the movie would be wise to add Rod in some capacity and give him a fun cameo role, but there is one potential problem standing in the way.

Rod’s Mutant Mayhem 2 Cameo Has 1 Major Drawback

Shredder’s Tease Offers A Slightly Darker Tone For The Mutant Mayhem Sequel

Despite how great a Rod cameo would be inMutant Mayhem 2, Shredder’s tease at the end of the first film makes this a lot more difficult.TMNT: Mutant Mayhem’s endingrevealed Shredder was stalking the turtles, setting up a potentially darker storyline for the sequel. Shredder is one of the franchise’s most iconic and menacing villains, meaning his inevitable involvement could somewhat shift the tone of theMutant Mayhemuniverse. Therefore, having a comedic character like Rod involved could feel out of place, and I worry it may hinder the overall vibe the movie is going for.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2will be released on August 20, 2025.

The character wouldn’t be able to thrive nearly as much if the protagonists were facing off against such a serious threat, but thankfully, the sequel could still make this work.Mutant Mayhemhas already proven that it can balance serious moments with comedyand, given this iteration of the turtles is mostly upbeat compared to other versions, the fight against Shredder can still contain plenty of humor. IncludingTales of the TMNT’s most hilarious addition inMutant Mayhem 2would still be tough, but I’m confident the sequel could pull this off, especially since the first movie nailed its tone.
