WARNING! SPOILERS ahead forFBIseason 7, episode 5, “Pledges” and episode 6, “Perfect.“Jeremy Sisto’s Jubal Valentine has been a major staple for the Dick Wolf showFBI, but I’m worried about his future in the show. Jubal is the FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the New York City Field Office. His leadership with the FBI unit in NYC makes him a reliable presence that his fellow agents can turn to for guidance and support in every case. However, in season 7, episode 6, “Perfect,” Jubal is missing in action and Special Agent Isobel is left in charge of their team.

While Isobel briefly referencesJubal’s absence in episode 6by telling the FBI unit he is out for the week, it turns out that Jubal has been suspended for using his power as an FBI agent to have his son Tyler released from prison after he was arrested. It’s an unexpected turn of events for the show, and one that could have major consequences for the character. This storyline evenraises questions regarding whetherSisto will remain inFBI.

OA and Jubal Looking Worried in FBI Season 6

Jubal’s FBI Season 7 Suspension Explained

The FBI Leader’s Personal Choice Comes At A Cost

Jubal’s suspension inFBIis a direct result of his actions, and I’m concerned how that could impact his future. In season 7, episode 5, “Pledges,” Jubal and the FBI team investigate the death of a college student. As they track down the killer, Jubal’s son Tyler and a group of students are arrested for protesting on the campus over the dorms not being open to migrants. Jubal uses his rank as an FBI leader to get Tyler out of prison. This abuse of power directlyresults in his suspension and absence in episode 6.

Why Is There No New FBI This Week (November 26) & When International, Most Wanted, & Flagship Return

There is a reason the FBI franchise is not airing any new episodes on August 14, 2025, despite the cliffhangers at the end of each show.

Jubal’s absence in episode 6 is a rarity considering he has been a constant presence throughout the series. This storyline also highlights a dichotomy of Jubal’s character. While he is the leader of an FBI task force, he is also a caring father who isn’t afraid to cross the line between his personal and professional lives. Jubal’s care for Tyler is a reminder that he has been through personal turmoil before, including thedeath of fellow FBI agent Rina Trenholmand his issues with alcoholism. However, this consequence could undermine the entire team dynamic ofFBI.

Isobel’s Non-Chalant Line About Jubal’s Absence Means The Team Is Unaware Of His Suspension

The Team Doesn’t Know What’s Happening To Their Leader

In the episode, “Perfect,” Isobel tells the FBI team, “I know Jubal’s out for the week, but we have work to do.“This shows that the unit is unaware of Jubal’s suspensionand only believes that he is taking some time off to deal with a personal matter. Without Jubal’s team aware of his situation, they couldn’t protest it or help him get back. Instead, they have to continue with their job, especially when working on a case involving a serial killer on the loose.

Jubal’s suspension hurts the FBI team because not only do they not know about it, but the unit is left wondering what’s going on with their leader.

The suspension is only known between Isobel and Jubal, since Isobel called the FBI ASAC into her office during “Pledges” and told him privately that she had to suspend Jubal.Jubal’s suspension hurts the FBI teambecause not only do they not know about it, but the unit is left wondering what’s going on with their leader.Team members like Missy Peregrym’s Maggieand Omar have an effective working relationship with Jubal, and likely would be distracted trying to help with his situation. This raises doubts about the team’s effectiveness with Isobel.

The Longer Jubal Is Away, The Bigger The Risk That He Isn’t Coming Back

Jubal May Be Out Of The Show

Jubal’s suspension raises several questions regarding whether he will lose his job with the FBI, thuspotentially ending Jeremy Sisto’s run on the show as the FBI’s leading man. Losing Sisto would be a major blow to the series, considering Jubal has been an essential presence on the show. I’ve loved howFBIexplored his leadership qualities and personal matters over the years, providing depth to his character. His charismatic sense of humor, including puns and references to baseball, brings much-needed levity and natural contrast to the serious nature of the team’s casework.

FBInew episodes air every Tuesday at 8pm on CBS.

Sisto has previous experience on a Dick Wolf show, having been a part of the originalLaw & Orderseries as Anthony Anderson’s partner for a few seasons (along with fellowFBIstar Alana de la Garza). If Jubal continues to be absent from the show, I’m worried there is a probable risk that he will not return and further impact the team’s effectiveness.FBIowes it to thecharacter to give him a proper sendoff if that’s the case, or set the record straight that he will return. Hopefully, this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Jubal onFBI.
