Warning! Spoilers ahead for Uncanny X-Men #7!TheX-Menhave a variety of new mutants joining Rogue’s Louisiana X-Men team but one specific Mutant caught my eye as a potential candidate for becomingWolverine’s protégé and possibly his successor. During the battle at Graymalkin, I think the new superhero recruitRansomproves he has both the rage and skill to be on Wolverine’s level.

InUncanny X-Men#7 - written by Gail Simone, with art by Edgar Salazar and David Marquez - before the battle in Graymalkin prison ensues,Rogue says the peace between the two X-Men teams hinges on Wolverine and Ransom keeping their cool. This later comes to fruition when Ransom misinterprets Cyclops’ intercom as an attack and punches him, kickstarting the massive battle between the two teams.

Uncanny X-Men #7; Rogue worries about Wolverine and Ransom

Wolverine is shown trying to talk Ransom through their current predicament and I believe this showcases how similar the two X-Men are, which may lead to Wolverine taking Ransom under his wing to manage his rage.

Like Wolverine, Ransom Has a Good Heart but Hides It Behind Rage

Randsom’s Unique Mutant Abilities Allow Him to Convert Violence to Power

Whenthe team of runaway Outliersencounters Rogue’s X-Men in the woods, Ransom throws the first punch at Wolverine, showing he’s the most assertive and willing to fight among his team of new X-Men. Ransom’s mutant powers are also interestingly unique asRansom has a black hole where his heart should be, allowing him to absorb matter and then channel the energy he absorbs into power. One aspect of this new character I love is how Ransom is always itching for a fight and ready to come to blows if it means protecting the other Outliers.

Marvel Debuts Its New Juggernaut & They’re Way More Powerful Than the Original (With An Even Scarier Extra Power)

Marvel’s newest X-Man makes the Juggernaut look weak by comparison. While she may be young, she has one extra power that Cain Marko will never have.

Ransom is shown to be a noble hero by fighting alongsidethe X-Men when they’re attacked by the Hagand defending his teammates Jitter and Deathdream when they are being bullied at school, however,Ransom’s fierce willingness to start fights is very reminiscent of classic Wolverine. While I acknowledge Wolverine and Ransom have starkly different mutant abilities, they share similar characteristics of powering up when they get attacked or get angry, making them both unshakable powerhouses. Many aspects of Ransom remind me of a young Wolverine such as his attitude, his fighting style, and his rough beginnings.

New X-Men Ransom’s Tragically Violent Origin Story Holds Strong Similarities to Wolverine

I Think Wolverine Can Guide Ransom Into Becoming a Better Hero

Ransom’s true identity is Valentin from Buenos Ares, Argentina andhe got the inspiration for his hero identity after his extremely wealthy parents refused to pay the ransom to get him back, afterwards, he escaped and decided to survive on the streets. I find it interesting how Ransom and Wolverine share similar upbringings of being that resulted in both X-Men having a pessimistic outlook on the world and later becoming hardened fighters. It’s Wolverine who points out that Ransom sleeps as if he is used to sleeping uneasily and it’s also Wolverine Ransom looks to for advice when they’re about to face Cyclops’ team at Graymalkin prison.

Not only would they be able to relate to one another’s origin, but Wolverine can teach Ransom to channel his fiery temper into fighting the way he did.

While Ransom has shown to be capable of being heroic, it’s apparent he’s troubled and looking for direction asRansom admits he flipped a coin to decide whether to go to the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants or the X-Men. This part of his character is why I think Wolverine would be a phenomenal mentor to Ransom. Not only would they be able to relate to one another’s origin, butWolverine can teach Ransom to channel his fiery temperinto fighting the way he did.

Wolverine Would Be an Excellent Mentor to the New X-Men Recruits, Especially Ransom

I Believe Ransom May Just Be the X-Men’s Next Wolverine

As Rogue’s Louisiana team trains the new recruits to be the next generation of X-Men, I think it would be the right move for Wolverine to mentor Ransom asWolverine can relate to Ransom’s difficult origin story and better teach him how to keep his head cool in battle. While Wolverine still struggles with managing his berserker rage from time to time, having a pupil like Ransom would help Wolverine look outside himself. I’m excited to see howRansomdevelops as anX-Menbecause I believe, with guidance from Wolverine, he has great potential to becomeWolverine’s successor should he learn to channel his inner turmoil.

Uncanny X-Men #7is available now from Marvel Comics!

Wolverine

The human mutant Wolverine (a.k.a. Logan) was born James Howlett, blessed with a superhuman healing factor, senses, and physiology. Subjecting himself to experimentation to augment his skeleton and claws with adamantium, Logan is as deadly as he is reckless, impulsive, and short-tempered. Making him the X-Men’s wildest and deadliest member, and one of Marvel Comics' biggest stars. He’s played in Fox and Marvel’s movie franchises by Hugh Jackman.
