Dungeons & Dragonscharacter Drizzt Do’Urden has been traveling the Forgotten Realms since 1988, and his companions have helped him defeat tyrannous evil through over 40 books. WhileDrizzt and his scimitarshave been the central focus of most ofThe Legend of Drizzt, this epic series has also spent time diving deep into Drizzt’s enemies, frenemies, and friends, creating a rich tapestry of interlocking storylines. With so many novels, short stories, and graphic novels, it can be hard to ascertain where each character’s story ends.

The powerful drow ranger Drizzt Do’Urdenwas introduced by R.A. Salvatore inThe Icewind Dale Trilogyin 1988, coming across the crew he would come to know as the Companions of the Hall. Companions Guenhwyvar, Catti-brie, Wulfgar, and Bruenor Battlehammer would accompany Drizzt through thick and thin, often crossing paths with the grizzled assassin, Artemis Entreri. This cold-hearted enemy was soon to turn into an ally, and the same went for the drow Jarlaxle, Entreri’s on-again, off-again business partner. Through it all, Salvatore created narrative loopholes to enable him to resurrect lost characters, ensuring that many main characters' stories were never quite over.

Defying Menzoberranzan’s feudal tribes, Jarlaxle set up his mercenary group, Bregan D’aerthe. After numerous cut-throat deals,Jarlaxle found himself traveling with the assassin Artemis Entreri. The chemistry between these two was undeniable, so it was little surprise when Jeremy Crawford confirmed that Jarlaxle was pansexual.

Jarlaxle could easily beD&D’snext queer iconifThe Legend of Drizztwere adapted. But Jarlaxle’s bond with Artemis was tragically subverted in Baldur’s Gate when he was forced to betray him. Jarlaxle liberated a whole city and started traveling with Drizzt before bumping into Artemis again, resulting in some seriously awkward conversation. 7Artemis Entreri

Hardened Assassin

Born in Calimshan into horribly difficult circumstances, the assassin Artemis Entreri may have had an even harder childhood than the drow males ofThe Legend of Drizzt. Growing up around Calimport and hired by Pasha Pook to assassinate Regis as an adult, Artemis endedThe Halfling’s Gemeven more obsessed with defeating Drizzt than Tiago.Drizzt and Artemis' dramatic enmitywent on to be a huge highlight ofThe Legend of Drizzt, taking Artemis to Bregan D’aerthe just to see him again.Left for dead but rescued by Jarlaxle, Artemis ended up stuck in Menzoberranzan, finding Drizzt an unlikely ally.

But eventually, in 2016’sMaestro, Jarlaxle stopped Artemis from a foolhardy quest to save Drizzt, suggesting a possible reconciliation. The Barbarian

Wulfgar’s devastating death inThe Legacywas not as final as it seemed. Rather, Wulfgar was taken to the drow goddess, Lolth, who traded him to Errtu, the demonic Balor.

Wulfgar’s simmering romance with Catti-brie was harshly interrupted by this earth-shattering event, leading to Errtu torturing Wulfgar for years on end. Errtu was trying to lure Drizzt’s attention and it worked, resulting in Wulfgar’s escape and Errtu’s defeat and banishment. This wasn’t Wulfgar’s last scrape with death and destruction. But thankfully,he was brought back by Mielikki to help Drizzt, like Regis. By the end ofLolth’s Warrior, Wulfgar had explored his past, seeking his own people, and again, reunited with Drizzt and his friends.

Inevitably, Bruenor finally reclaimed Mithral Hall, with the help of the Companions, who henceforth earned themselves the moniker Companions of the Hall. Eventually marrying Drizzt afterThe Orc King, Catti-brie’s sweet, slow-burn love with Drizzt resulted in their child, Brienelle Zaharina.

1 Overused Hollywood Trend Is The Surprising Way To Make A Drizzt Dungeons & Dragons Show Fantasy Gold

There is a perfect D&D Drizzt Do’Urden TV show waiting in the wings, but one overused Hollywood trope may be key to bringing it to life.

DuringSiege of Darkness, the Time of Troubles nearly destroyed Guenhwyvar completely. All magic in the realm of Faerûn was endangered by this cataclysmic threat. However, Guenhwyvar survived with Catti-brie’s assistance. Drizzt found himself woefully separated from Guenhwyvar inThe Last Threshold. 1Drizzt Do’Urden

Dark Elf

Born and raised in the Underdark’s Menzoberranzan as a noble of House Do’Urden but an inferior male, Drizzt escaped a homicidal family to carve out a new life on the surface. The specters of his past would haunt him, with his father, Zaknafein, pursuing him first as a vengeful wraith and then as a reanimated friend. Drizzt later had to kill his own sister, who had also hunted him down from the Underdark. Drizzt’s sister, Vierna, caused Wulfgar’s death, which wasn’t the last tragedy to strike Drizzt. While defeating foes like Errtu, the Orc King, Tiago Baenre, and the Marilith, Drizzt relied on the Companions of the Hall for support.

Despite managing to make friends of his previous enemies, Artemis and Jarlaxle, nothing could prepare Drizzt for the catastrophic Spellplague. This huge change affected multiple stories inD&D, resulting in Salvatore’s uniqueCompanion. Having lost Regis, and the love of his life, Catti-brie, Drizzt was a haggard drow for a long time. As he lay injured,Drizzt was miraculously joined by the Companions of the Hall, resurrected. Reunited, they kept on defending the Forgotten Realms inDungeons & Dragons. Drizzt seemed peaceful at the end ofLolth’s Warriorand adorably worried about his daughter inBetwixt Two Worlds.
