With Michael C. Hall’s television serial killer set to return inDexter: Resurrection, showrunner Clyde Phillips explains how the actor had an essential role in greenlighting the sequel and expanding the franchise alongsideDexter: Original Sin. The series is the second sequel to the crime mystery series that ran from 2006 to 2013 across eight seasons. Phillips has had a hand in all theDexterfranchise’s series, including the original show, the 2019 sequel seriesDexter: New Blood, and theprequel seriesDexter: Original Sin.
As Dexter’s first kills are finally being unveiled followingDexter: Original Sin’s premiere, Phillips sat down withScreen Rant to explain how Hall’s appetite for more stories opened up the opportunities for the future. He revealed thatHall was the individual to kick off the idea of continuing Dexter’s storybeyond the events ofNew Blood, even reaching out to give him a call. After the Dexter star approved of Phillips' pitch, followed by Showtime and Paramount, it led to the greenlighting ofResurrectionasOriginal Sin’s first season was filming. Read his response below:

It’s a whole new show. Michael Hall called me and said, “you know what? I’ve got Dexter in my bones. Clyde, you’ve got Dexter in your bones. Let’s keep going. Can you figure it out? How can I have survived what happened in the finale?”
My team and I figured it out, pitched it to Michael. He loved it. Pitched it to Showtime and Paramount. “They’re not going to say no to this. I mean, it’s their biggest show!” And we start shooting that in a month. So, all while shooting Original Sin, we were writing Resurrection.
