Housestar Peter Jacobson discusses the chances of aHouserevival. Jacobson played Dr. Chris Taub on the popular medical series, which ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012. In addition to Jacobson,Housefeatured a leading castof Hugh Laurie, Omar Epps, Robert Sean Leonard, Jesse Spencer, Lisa Edelstein, Bobbin Bergstrom, Jennifer Morrison, Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, and more. The medicalserieswas well-received throughout its runand was nominated for multiple Emmys.

In an exclusive interview withScreen Rant, Jacobson discussed the prospects of aHouserevival. The actor stated"it makes sense more now than it did 10 years ago" to do aHouserevivalbecause of the streaming presence. He thinks a revival would “get just a whole new generation of people who really love that show.” The actor believed that thestorylines make a revival possible, saying “there’s a lot more to tell if they want to tell it.” He did say that the revival chances hinge on Laurie, in this statement:

Well, that’s sort of the thing now. Before, you’d never think about it, and then suddenly, so many of these wonderful shows are back again. It makes sense more now than it did 10 years ago, because of streaming. My kid loves House, and he was barely born when I did it, and you get just a whole new generation of people who really love that show. It would be up to Hugh, of course. I would love it, I love that character, I had so much fun. It was such a wonderful time in my life, and the writers were so fabulous. It was just such lightning in a bottle for us. It was just a great experience, and I think that there’s a lot more to tell if they want to tell it. When people are game, I’m game.

What This Means For House’s Revival Chances

The Actor’s Enthusiasm Is A Good Sign

Jacobson offers some good points when making the case for aHouserevival. Not only does the long gap allow a series to find a new audience, but the availability of shows on streaming also carves out a newfound niche in the market. People are watching shows in different ways, creating an exciting opportunity for the series to return. Considered even by many asone of the best medical dramas,Househas experienced its own streaming success, which further opens the case for a revival.

7 House M.D. Actors Who Left The Show Before The Ending (& Why)

House featured many memorable cast members throughout its eight seasons, but not all of its actors appeared consistently or made it to the end.

However, it’s valid thatLaurie’s involvement would be crucial tothe development of a newHouseseason. Laurie is a critical part of the series after receiving six Emmy nominations throughout his time on the show. However, the chances of a return are murky given how the series ended with the titular character faking his death to avoid prison and spend his time with his good friend Dr. Wilson who only had months to live due to cancer. Still, there could be ways to address his return now that Laurie has no major TV projects on the horizon.

A House Revival Would Have Competition

There Is Currently A Slew Of New Medical Shows

As I see Jacobson’s hopeful statement about aHouserevival, I have to consider how much competitionHousewould face if it were released today. Itis no stranger to competing with other medical shows, asGrey’s AnatomyandERwere in their runs whenthe series was on air. However, several new medical shows have been released or preparing for premiere, including Ryan Murphy’sDoctor Odyssey, and the upcoming seriesThe Pitt. These new shows would create a competitive environment forHouseshould it be revived in this era.

House

Cast

House is a medical mystery drama in which the villain is typically a difficult-to-diagnose medical malady. It follows Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), a world-renowned disabled diagnostician with a notorious substance abuse issue. With his team of world-class doctors, House has built a reputation as one of the most brilliant doctors in the world - an especially impressive feat when taking into account that he rarely actually sees his patients.
