Summary

A new leak aboutHonkai: Star Rail, indicating a partial solution to characters that have suffered from powercreep releases that made them utterly useless in current team comps. Powercreep is a term used to describe certain characters that have similar gameplay kits or power to previous units and make them less attractive to use because the newer releases are substantially stronger. A great example of this is how Jing Yuan, who was once one of the strongest DPS in HoYoverse’s turn-based RPG, got powercrept by the release of Blade andJingliu inHonkai: Star Rail.

Several characters from the game have fallen into disuse, but that may not be the case forever. According to new information by the leaker known as Seele Leaks, which was shared in a post tagged as “Questionable” onReddit, mentions thatolder characters may get new Paths to follow, much like March 7th recently received her Hunt form in Version 2.4. The leak mentions that, starting in Version 3.0, players who do not have the original form of certain characters inHonkai: Star Railwill get the new form, while those who have them will unlock a Path Switch system.

Why I’m So Excited About Honkai: Star Rail’s New Leaked Characters (& Why You Should Be Too)

There are rumors of two new Honkai: Star Rail characters arriving after Version 3.0 that will bring back the best combat mechanic so far.

Older Characters In Honkai: Star Rail May Beat Powercreeps

The Rumored Path Switch System Could Bring Characters Back Into The Spotlight

As is mentioned in the leak, players will not be able to use both Paths simultaneously in battle but will have to change them beforehand, exactly the same way that they do with March 7th at the moment. If the leak is true, this may be a partial solution to powercreeps.Jing Yuan, for instance, could once again be present in team comps, now under a new Path and, possibly, element. This could refresh the powercrept character to the point that, even if his older kit is still suffering from powercreeps, Jing Yuan is still usable inHonkai: Star Rail.

“New forms of older characters are still subject to being powercrept in the future.”

Of course, this does not solve all problems. Jing Yuan’s older gameplay kit will likely still remain somewhat useless when compared to other DPS units, as will likely be the case with several other powercrept characters, from Seele to Tingyun, for example. This does not solve the powercreep, per si, but offers playersa solution so that they can continue using their favorite characters even when their original forms are no longer usable. This entails players’ investment in the gacha banners, too, so it will somewhat also be locked behind limited-time and, often, premium banners inHonkai: Star Rail.

Furthermore, these rumored new versions of older characters could also powercreep other more recent characters. A new form of Seele could completely end Acheron’s usefulness in team comps, for instance. Additionally, thenew forms would not be permanent solutions, as they would also be subject to being powercreptby subsequent releases.

A new form of Jing Yuan, for example, could easily fall into disuse after the release of a new unit or a new form for another older character.

For now, these leaks should be considered with caution, as they may be incorrect or subject to change – after all, they are predicted for Version 3.0 and beyond. Nevertheless, this sounds like a promising new way to engage in the game and still use fan-favoritecharacters inHonkai: Star Railwithout having to put them aside entirely.
