The larger plans for James Gunn’sDC Universeare teased by one of the new major actors in the franchise. A new era of DC is on its way to the big and small screens with Gunn’s DC Universe, which will have a soft start this fall with theCreature CommandosTV show. The first movie from Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters,” will then beSupermanwhen it flies into theaters in 2025.
ScreenRantrecently interviewed Frank Grillo for his new film,Long Gone Heroes, and asked about Gunn’s DC Universe, which the actor is joining this fall. Grillo - who plays Rick Flag Sr. inCreature Commandos,SupermanandPeacemakerseason 2 - stressed that"fans are going to be blown away by the mind of James Gunn.“He also compared the writer-director’s plan for the DCU to his past work on theGuardians of the Galaxymovies.

I know, as far as timeline, Creature Commandos hits in December, and then as far as Superman and Peacemaker, that’s out in 2025. They haven’t told us anything by design. James Gunn is cutting everything right now, I’m about to go finish the last couple of episodes with James directing on Peacemaker, and that’s about as much as I could say. It’s all Rick Flag, it’s all the same character throughout, which I love. I could not be more appreciative to James and Peter Safran. These guys are running DC now, and they’ve brought me into this fold in a big way. I think fans are going to be blown away by the mind of James Gunn. He’s been let free. Guardians is a small thing compared to what this guy has in mind for DC. So stay tuned.
What Frank Grillo’s Comment Means For The DC Universe
Even though Gunn and his DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran revealed a lot ofChapter 1 “Gods and Monsters” movies and TV shows,it is crucial to remember that these were only a handful of projects from the first chapter of the new DC Universe. Grillo is right that there is a lot more to expect, as they will likely announce more of those ideas once Chapter 1 is actually underway and releasing the previously announced films and series. Whether it is at a future San Diego Comic-Con or another big media event remains to be seen.
Gunn has made it clear that he and Safran have mapped out the next 10 years of the DC Universe, meaning that the public has barely scratched the surface of the larger endgame. With major projects likeGunn’sSupermanmoviesetting the foundation of the franchise, time will tell how the DC Universe also sets itself apart from the DCEU movie timeline. But even the characters and properties that have already been announced are showing that Gunn’s DC Universe wants to stand out from what came before.

Our Take On Frank Grillo’s DCU Comment
While Gunn’s work with theGuardians of the Galaxymovies was huge for the Marvel Cinematic Universe,Grillo’s comments about the filmmaker’s work with DC Studios make perfect sense since this will be on a whole different scale. After having worked for Marvel Studios during all these years, Gunn gets to be the best of both worlds when it comes to the new DC Universe, as he has had a unique experience of having already been part of one major superhero franchise, and will now be leading his own. Hopefully, more of Gunn’s plans for the overallDC Universewill be revealed sooner rather than later.

DC Universe
The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
