What Happens In Gremlins: The Wild Batch Part 1’s Ending
How Does Noggin’s Story End?
A lot happens in episode 5 ofGremlins: The Wild Batch, with it feeling like a season finale even though it is only the middle of the season. The episode ties up most of the plot lines that have occurred so far, with Sam, Elle, and Gizmo herding Noggin and the Gremlins into a fireworks factory before it explodes. On top of that, Chang finally lives up to his father’s legacy, with him leading the gangsters of Chinatown in their fight back against Noggin and the Gremlins.
Meanwhile,Elle’s mom returns with the power to control water, with her using her magical abilities to help fight off the Gremlins. She then explains that she has been bound to the water and sends Sam and Elle on a quest to get a wish from the water god by freeing him. However, the episode ends back in Shanghai, with Grandpa Wing learning about the kids' new quest and realizing that they may inadvertently cause the end of the world.

Elle’s Mom Appears In Gremlins: The Wild Batch (& She Has Some Mysterious Powers)
Part 2’s Story Will Center Around Her
One of the biggest reveals in the finale ofGremlins: The Wild BatchPart 1 is the return of Elle’s mom, a character who hadn’t had a major role in the series before. InGremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, it was revealed that Elle was separated from her parents while attempting to steal from someone, with her parents never coming back to find her.Gremlins: The Wild Batchfeatures several flashbacks that show Elle interacting with her mother, although it isn’t until the finale of Part 1 that she is finally reunited with her long lost parent.
Upon her return inGremlins: The Wild BatchPart 1, it is revealed thatElle’s mom has the ability to control water, something that is incredibly helpful when fighting off the Gremlins. However, she tells Elle that she can’t leave the water, with her having made a deal that bonded her to it. Luckily, she has a plan. Elle’s mom tells Elle that she can be freed through the use of a wish that can be granted by a mysterious water god, one that Elle and Sam must go on a long journey to find. However, Elle’s mom will always be beside the kids as long as there is water nearby.

Did Gremlins: The Wild Batch Just Kill Off Noggin?
It Seems Likely That Noggin Will Return
One of the biggest questions that is still lingering after the end ofGremlins: The Wild BatchPart 1 has to do with if the series just killed off Noggin. ThroughoutMax’sGremlinsanimated series, George Takei’s Noggin has been the main villain, with him returning in a big way inGremlins: The Wild Batch. At the end of the episode, Noggin and the rest of the Gremlins are in a fireworks factory, with the antics of the Gremlins igniting the explosives. This seemingly kills every Gremlin inside, which would presumably include Noggin.
However,Noggin’s body is never shown, and the series doesn’t confirm him to be dead, meaning that he probably made it out alive. After all, Noggin is much smarter than the rest of the Gremlins, and his return inGremlins: The Wild BatchPart 2 would parallel a similar moment with Stripe in the originalGremlinsmovie. It would be strange to kill off the show’s main villain halfway through season 2, and while it is believable that the rest of Noggin’s Gremlin army died in the explosion, most viewers don’t buy that he is actually dead.
Gremlins: The Wild Batch Makes Elle Its Main Character (Not Sam)
And This Will Continue In Part 2
Although Sam was the main character ofGremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, Elle seems to be getting the spotlight inGremlins: The Wild Batch. This main character shift mostly has to do with Elle’s mom, who played a big role in Part 1 and is being set up to play an even bigger role in Part 2. Since the first season of Max’s animatedGremlinsshow was all about Sam, it makes sense forGremlins: The Wild Batchto have a cast switch upand make Elle the protagonist, allowing for a new type of story.
How Gremlins: The Wild Batch Part 1 Sets Up Part 2
Elle’s Mom, Noggin, & Chang
AlthoughGremlins: The Wild BatchPart 1 is over, the season isn’t with, the finale already setting upGremlins: The Wild BatchPart 2. Althoughthe threat of Noggin is gone, the finale gives Sam and Elle a new quest. Part 2 will see them track down the water god in an attempt to free Elle’s mom, although Grandpa Wing and Sam’s grandparents will most likely be in pursuit in an attempt to stop them from dooming the world.
On top of that, it seems likely that Noggin will return, seeing that he is the show’s antagonist. Currently, Max’s animatedGremlinsshow has no Gremlin threat, although it is doubtful that things will stay that way for long. It is unclear if Simu Liu’s Chang will stick around to continue being a main character inGremlins: The Wild BatchPart 2, as his character arc was seemingly completed when the gang saved Chinatown at the end of Part 1.
