Both cut imposing figures, and there’s a shocking amount of detail in both costumes, whether it’s their different layers of armor, or how their masks and helmets strike the perfect balance where they’re both creepy, but still have the “Halloween costume” aesthetic of the best versions of the goblins. The cosplayer also credits @altovenue and @fotobyryan for photography, and @proptimusprime for creating Green Goblin’s helmet.

Spider-Society’s twisted new take on Ghost-Spider makes her the Gwen Goblin, a terrifying villain with a devastating new origin.

With the cultural dominance of Green Goblin, as featured in multiple different film and animated adaptations, it’s easy to forget that for the generation growing up in the 1990s,Hobgoblin was the main goblin villain in Spider-Man comics. Norman died in the early 1970s, and Harry died exactly 20 years later in 1993. Those deaths left a Goblin-sized hole in Spider-Man’s villain roster that led to the resurgence of Hobgoblin andthe aforementioned Kingsley retcon. Until Norman Osborn’s ignominious return at the end of Spidey’s Clone Saga, Hobgoblin was one of Spidey’s deadliest and biggest foes.

Green Goblin and Hobgoblin Aren’t the Same Character in Spider-Man Lore

And These Cosplays Show Exactly Why

The differences between the cosplays also illustrate their character differences. The undersuit of the Green Goblin costume is decked out in intricate tech reminiscent of his movie incarnations, while Hobgoblin’s suit is a more traditional fabric all the way down. Green Goblin’s tech is the result of Norman being rich. Meanwhile, Hobgoblin has always been dangerous, but the identity always feels a little more slapdash. They have some technology, but it’s almost always stolen from an Osborn design. This cosplay illustrates the differences betweenGreen GoblinandHobgoblinperfectly and reminds fans why they’re such greatSpider-Manvillains.
