Manhole Volume #1 Preview from Kana Teases an Intrusive Bio-Horror Threat

Tetsuya Tsutsui Crafts a Modern Thriller That Gets Under the Skin

As shown in glimpses of several early pages ofManhole, an autopsy quickly takes a dark turn when Tadao Sugano, the Sasahara Police Department’s medical examiner, finds concerning clues on a cadaver. The pages highlight how the corpse was found with trace elements of trichloromethane, an anesthetic, as well as bulging blood vessels on the cadaver’s head and eye. But upon closer looks,Manholetakes an uncomfortable turn when the deceased man’s eyelid opens independently, with Sugano extracting what resembles a large parasite from within his eye, hinting that the man was more a victim than a medical casualty.

The fact that the eye is openly writhing, with the wormlike foreign body squirming between the doctor’s forceps, is enough to get readers curious to the extent of the biological agent’s threat inManhole.
