Warning! Spoilers ahead for Frasier season 2, episode 8, “Thank You, Dr. Crane.“TheFrasierrevival season 2 returns to Seattle, but in the process, it interprets the point of the original series incorrectly. After spending the first several years of his TV arc in Boston, rubbing elbows with Norm Peterson and Cliff Clavin at Sam Malone’s underground bar inCheers,Kelsey Grammer’s snooty therapist decided to return home to the Pacific Northwest. Off-screen, awarding Frasier Crane his own spinoff was risky back then despite the success of its parent series. In the new revival,Frasier spent the first 10 episodesback in Boston reconnecting with his grown-up son, Freddy.
As its sophomore year expands its storytelling, it lets itself tap into the nostalgia of revisiting the original show. That includes more prominently featuring Roz, following Peri Gilpin theFrasierseason 1 finalereturn. With the friends reuniting, they make a trip back to Seattle in “Thank You, Dr. Frasier Crane,” asFrasier revives a special broadcast ofThe Frasier Crane Showto help the fledgling KACL. Freddy tags along, and the trip brings back some of his hang-ups about growing up away from his dad. The series attempts to explore this but totally gets the original show wrong.

Frasier Reboot Suggests His Seattle Homecoming Was About Being A Radiotherapist
The Dr. Frasier Crane Show Made Frasier A Local Celebrity A Couple Of Decades Ago
The trip to Seattle inFrasierseason 2is brief, but Freddy had a totally different idea of what it would look like. While all he wants is to catch a Seattle Mariner game, Frasier is keener on showing off his legacy in his hometown, which, unsurprisingly, goes awry. While the main goal is to do a one-time KACL show, Roz also recruits an old caller, whose life has supposedly been turned around byThe Frasier Crane Show. Sadly, this isn’t the case, when they finally meet Lou —a failed magician who followed Frasier’s advice to take a risk, resulting in his current struggles.
Frasier Season 2 Officially Ends The Original Series 20 Years After It Went Off The Air
The Frasier reboot’s return to Seattle officially wraps up the original Cheers spinoff 20 years after Kelsey Grammer’s character left Emerald City.
Towards the end ofFrasierseason 2, episode 8, “Thank You, Dr. Frasier Crane”, Frasier admits that he wanted to prove to Freddy and himself that moving to Seattle 30 years ago from Boston was all worth it because he made a name for himself. His son isn’t as bothered by the idea at first, but he eventually admits that he, understandably, would have wanted to grow up with his father around. While they patch things up, Freddy and Frasier’s conversation misses the true significance of the Seattle series.

Frasier’s Move To Seattle After Cheers Was About His Relationships
Seattle Was Where The Cranes Were
During his conversation with Freddy, Frasier attempts to justify his move to Seattle by highlighting the good that he supposedly brought to the city viaThe Dr. Frasier Crane Show. The KACL series wasn’t only popular, but also acclaimed, and it gave the usually snooty therapist a platform to help others, which remains to be his best trait. Niles did mock his drive-thru therapy and Lou made it seem useless, but Frasier’s radio show did help the people of the Emerald City to take care of their mental health. That said, regardless of how much good he brought to the city, that wasn’t the main significance of the originalCheersspinoff.
The most important storylines in the decorated series were about the Cranes and Frasier’s attempt to reconnect with his father, Martin — somehow similar to his endeavor when he decided to settle once again in Boston to be near Freddy.

Instead, the oldFrasiershow’s central storyline was about Frasier’s character. While it did fairly feature KACL, it was a conscious effort to make it into a family sitcom rather than a workplace one to differentiate it fromCheers. The most important storylines in the decorated series were about the Cranes and Frasier’s attempt to reconnect with his father, Martin — somehow similar to his endeavor when he decided to settle once again in Boston to be near Freddy. As great asNiles and Daphne’s story was, Frasier and Martin’s story was the original show’s best romance.
Why Frasier’s Time In Seattle Is Very Important To His Story
Frasier Was Able To Repair His Relationship With Martin
ThroughoutFrasier’s 11 seasons on the air,Frasier and Martin learned about each other, repaired their dynamic, and came out of it with a much better understanding of one another. Admittedly, living under the same roof was a hassle for both of them when they were forced to do it. The Seattle series did a great job balancing drama and comedy, and many of its most emotional moments were rooted in the pains of Frasier and Martin getting re-acquainted.
Frasier Season 2 Subtly Admits The Harshest Reality Facing The Reboot Show’s Future
The Frasier revival season 2’s special Seattle episode somehow admits to the harshest reality that the Paramount+ show is facing regarding its future.
Frasier getting to know his father was a gift for him. He and Niles didn’t have the closest bond with Martin, considering their different personalities. Through time, however, they learned that their tastes and preferences didn’t really matter in terms of fostering a good relationship. Because of Frasier’s experience with Martin in the Seattle series, he was inspired to take the initiative in repairing his relationship with his own son in theFrasierrevival.
