A Fly Team member’s exit was inevitable at the end ofFBI: Internationalseason 4, episode 10, titled “Keep Calm and Deliver the Biotoxin.” ThisFBI: Internationalseason 7story revolves around the Fly Team’s attempt to protect a Russian woman, Yulia (Sofia Shallai), who is transporting a briefcase her father died to protect. Raines, Smitty, and Booth accompany Yulia on a train trip to deliver the briefcase to a scientist friend of her father’s. When the team discovers the briefcase is hiding a bioweapon that could cause mass illness and death if it falls into the wrong hands,
“Keep Calm and Deliver the Biotoxin” also includes a subplot resolving Booth’s (Station 19’s Jay Hayden)future with the FBI. Booth is excited to have been offered a promotion to GS-14, which will allow him to spend more time with his daughter. However, the success of the promotion depends on Smitty’s (Eva Jane Willis) recommendation to the Philadelphia Field Office, but she has concerns about Booth’s and Mitchell’s (Jesse Lee Soffer) recent behavior. Thus,FBI: International’s Smitty considers resigning from the Fly Teamso that she won’t have to be the one to make the recommendation.

Smitty’s offer to resign is the most practical solution she can think of. If she leaves the Fly Team, then Mitchell will be responsible for giving Booth a recommendation. This decision removes the obstacle to Booth’s promotion, but at great cost to the Fly Team, asSmitty is a more valuable character inFBI: Internationalthan Booth. Unsurprisingly, Wes refuses to accept her resignation, claiming that he never got her email stating her intention to leave. He also tells Smitty that Booth has withdrawn his name from consideration for the GS-14 promotion and is returning to the U.S.

There are plenty of reasons that FBI: International’s Fly Team misses SSA Scott Forrester after he left and was replaced by Wes Mitchell.
Booth’s decision to give up his dream job protects the Fly Team. Smitty is one of their most valuable resources, as she is the team’s link with European authorities. Additionally, Mitchell’s statement that Smitty keeps him in line is mostly accurate; without her, the Fly Team might suffer because of his tendency to bend the rules when it’s not necessary. Booth’s sacrifice thus prevents anotherdisappointing exit from theFBIfranchise, and in return, he gets a happy ending — the episode ends with him reuniting with his daughter.

The only surprising aspect of his exit story is the red herring provided by Smitty’s offer to resign so that Booth could get the promotion he is seeking.

However, there would have to be a logical reason for Booth to return to Budapest to justify his next appearance.
