Thanks to the tremendous success ofBleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, theBleachfranchise is the most popular it’s been in over a decade. The fact that it revivedBleachis one thing, but the incredible visual quality of the production, combined with the great improvements made to the source material, have madeThousand-Year Blood Warnothing but a delight for old and new fans alike.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warhas been great, and it’s also been inviting questions of what should be done with the anime, going forward. Naturally, there’s been discussion about the anime leading to content past the manga getting animated, whether it’sBleach’s sequel story,Can’t Fear Your Own World,or an adaptation of the upcoming Echoing Jaws of Hell arc, but more than that,Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’s success has been one of many reasons why people are calling for aBleachremake in recent years. The sentiment is highly understandable, but unfortunately, it’s more complicated than people think.

Why 2024 Saw More People Than Ever Calling For A Bleach Remake
Why The Bleach Remake Conversation Got So Big In 2024
ABleachremakehas always been a hot topic among fans, but the issue appears to have peaked in 2024. For starters, 2024 saw the release of part 3 ofThousand-Year Blood War, and while every season has been a tremendous visual spectacle, part 3’s visual quality was especially great and is largely considered the most gorgeous the anime has ever looked. The incredible visual spectacle ofBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warpart 3 had people wishing all ofBleachcould look like that, and that’s had people clamoring for a reboot in the anime’s modern style.
The topic came to a head, however, with the release ofBleach’s anniversary video. Studio Pierrot released a short video to celebrate theBleachanime’s 20th anniversary, and much like theNarutovideo two years prior, it reanimated several iconic scenes with vastly improved visuals and animation along the same lines asThousand-Year Blood War.Bleach’s anniversary video, to many people, has provided a perfect look into how good aBleachremake would look like, and the need for a remake has been the highest it’s ever been because of it.

Why Bleach Fans Think The Anime Needs A Remake
Everything That Would Be Great About A Bleach Remake
People have never asked for aBleachremake more than they have now, and it’s hard to argue that it wouldn’t benefit from it. With how greatThousand-Year Blood Warlooks, it makes the often inconsistent visuals of the original anime look even worse by comparison, and it’s especially jarring wheneverThousand-Year Blood Wardoes a flashback and things are in a completely different style.ABleachremake would be a great way to make the anime consistent withBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Waron a visual level, and with how great the visuals are, there’s little reason to object.
Another point comes from the narrative ofThousand-Year Blood War. Beyond the visuals, a big selling point ofThousand-Year Blood Warhas been how often it expands on or outright changes the source material for a more developed story, so with that in mind,aBleachremake could be a means of fleshing out the story with new content for a stronger overarching narrative that plays better into the larger lore. A major criticism ofBleachhas always been the inconsistencies of its stories, so seeing that rectified in a remake would be nothing but a boon for the series.

The biggest reason why people want aBleachremake, of course, is because ofBleach’s filler episodes. Like many long-running anime of the 2000s,Bleachhad an infamously large amount of filler content, and even when the anime was focused on just adapting the manga, it would often pad things out with original material that added nothing to the story.ABleachremake is a chance to retell the series with as little filler as possible, and with all the other factors that would go into a potential remake, it would all come together to make a truly phenomenal anime.
Why Bleach Getting A Remake Is More Complicated Than People Think
Is A Bleach Remake Even Possible?
As great as aBleachremake would be to see, a remake actually happening is more complicated than people think. For starters, redoing a decade’s worth of content with modern animation would be an incredibly costly and timely ordeal on Studio Pierrot’s part, and as much as people talk about wanting a remake, there’s no guarantee that it would be successful enough to justify that level of effort. The original anime, as flawed as it was, is still fairly popular, soBleachlikely won’t get a remake when there’s no guarantee it would be more successful than the original anime.
Another point about the remake once again goes back to the filler content of the original anime. WhileBleachdoes have an excessive amount of filler, in the advent of streaming, it’s easy enough for people to skip over filler episodes to get back to the main story as soon as possible, sogetting rid of filler might not be a viable excuse for aBleachremake when streaming makes it largely irrelevant. Filler content within canon episodes is still an issue, but even that is probably considered largely negligible from a production standpoint.

The biggest issue getting in the way of aBleachremake, though, is Tite Kubo’s potential involvement. While Kubo has been heavily involved inBleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’s production, that’s because he wanted to improve things due to howKubo’s health issues while writingBleach’s final arcforced it to have a rushed and largely unsatisfying ending. That wasn’t as much of a problem in the earlier arcs, so Kubo probably wouldn’t want to spend time rewriting things, and as such, there might not be a point in doing aBleachremake if Tite Kubo isn’t involved in its production.
Does Bleach’s Original Anime Really Need A Remake?
Is A Bleach Remake As Vital As People Think?
There’s much to be said about whyBleachwould benefit from a remake and how possible that is, but at the end of the day, it probably doesn’t need one. As flawed as the anime was, it still does a great job of adapting the manga more often than not, so as great asBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Waris,Bleach’s original anime isn’t so bad that it needs a remake just to improve its visuals. TheBleachfranchise wouldn’t be as strong as it is today without the enduring quality of the original anime, and overall, that’s something worth preserving.
