The Lonely Assassins stalk the universe once more, as one cosplayer bringsDoctorWho’s terrifying Weeping Angels into the real world in incredibly painstaking detail. Created by Steven Moffat for season 3’s “Blink” in 2007,the Weeping Angelsmay appear as harmless statues but can move when out of sight, luring unknowing victims into a false sense of securitybefore ending their lives. After having occupied abandoned homes, shipwrecks, and the dark streets of New York, the Weeping Angels made their last appearance inDoctorWho season 13’s “Village of the Angels”.
While no living statues appeared in Ncuti Gatwa’s ongoingDoctorWhoera, body painter and artistMelissa Crofthas shared her terrifying take on the Lonely Assassins in a new Instagram Reel.

Croft’s incredible bodypaint captures the sculpted stone detailing of the monsters, including the surface of the statue and wear that it has sustained over time with fantastic, realistic-looking depth. Alongside a pair of wings that are just as carefully decorated, false fangs and a hairpiece that appropriately looks as solid as rock, the cosplayer’s work is sure to have anyDoctorWhofans unnerved and unable to turn away due to both her impressive work and out of fear.
Why Are The Weeping Angels So Terrifying
The Monsters Were A Hit From Their Debut Episode
While they were only introduced in the revival, the Weeping Angelsalready rank highly amongDoctorWho’smost iconic monsters. “Blink” not only introduced audiences to the monsters' terrifying physical appearance but showed their sadistic sides. They have the ability to rob an individual of their lives by sending them back in time and feeding off the energies of what could have been.
Doctor Who: Every Weeping Angels Episode
The Weeping Angels are arguably the best monsters introduced in the modern Doctor Who era. Here are all the episodes you shouldn’t blink in.
Subsequent stories would add further layers to their terror, from how they can possess and transform a being if they wish, to their unfathomable powers over light and sound to lure and approach their prey. Even after 17 years, the Weeping Angels are still a horror whosemystique allows their mythology to be further refined.

Our Thoughts On Croft’s Weeping Angels Revitalization
The Creatures Have Been Dormant In The New Era
With a focus on new concepts and different forms of monsters, the Weeping Angelshave yet to reappear to face the Fifteenth Doctor. Despite Gatwa’s hopes, the creatures haven’t made an on-screen appearance since 2021, though they have since appeared in Big Finish’s audio drama against the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann). However, with their fan-favorite status, it is likely a matter of time until the Weeping Angels return. Until then, Croft’s spectacular but terrifyingDoctorWhobody paint is a chilling reminder of the horrors the Whoniverse has to offer.
