Every Digimon Hero & Their Partner Ranked From Worst to Best
The Digimon anime is well known for its goggle-headed heroes and their fiery companions, but which protagonist is the best?
Leomon’s Evolution Line Has Died In Almost All Seasons It Has Appeared
This Curse Began In The Original Adventure Anime
Known as a noble warrior who fought for justice, theDigimon Adventureversion of Leomon acted as a major supporting character. He was first introduced as a brainwashed enemy to the DigiDestined and their partners, after having been infected by the evil energy of Devimon. After being liberated from the villain’s control, he became a mentor to the children, protecting them and helping defeat the vilest Digimon they would encounter. This version of Leomon died valiantly inone of the bestDigimonepisodesafter sacrificing himself to prevent the eccentric MetalEtemon from harming one of his friends. His death was the beginning of a long line of demises for various members of his species.
InDigimon Tamers, the third series of the franchise, another Leomon made a significant appearance, becoming the partner of Takato’s friend, Jeri. This iteration of the character was killed by Beelzemon, who had been corrupted by his newly acquired power.Leomon’s death served as the trigger for Jeri’s emotions to spiral out of control, giving birth to the D-Reaper, Tamer’s final antagonist. The last major death of a member of this species in the franchise involvesDigimon Data Squad’s BanchoLeomon. This brave and solitary being sacrificed his life to try and stop the Digital World’s deity, King Drassil, from destroying humanity.

Other members of the Leomon family have made appearances in the series, often acting as antagonists for the DigiDestined to defeat. For example, MadLeomon, one of the most evil evolutions of this creature, was destroyed early during theDigimon Fusionseries, acting as the first major antagonist for the protagonists. For many years, the appearance of a member of the Leomon species in the series suggested that this being would soon die, either by sacrificing itself or during combat.Leomon’s demise has become a traditionfor most entries in the franchise.
The Newer Seasons Seem To Have Released Leomon From His Curse
Adventure 2020 And Ghost Game Did Not Feature A Leomon Dying
While Leomon’s demise has been a part of theDigimonfranchise for years, the most recent seasons of the anime seem to have abandoned this tradition. The incredible reboot of the original series,Adventure 2020, once again featured a new version of this noble warrior. Despite his role being similar to his original counterpart, this Leomon was never killed throughout the entire series. He remained one of the DigiDestined most loyal companions but was never mortally injured during any of the battles he partook in.
In the following season,Digimon Ghost Game, none of the members of the Leomon family made an appearance, saving them from meeting a gruesome end. Given that the original Digital Monsters did not appear during theAppli Monstersseason of the anime, the members of this species were also spared from dying. The trend of introducing a Leomon, or one of its many variants, and having them die at some point in the series, seems to have finally come to an end.

Although the disappearance of a decades-long tradition from the franchise may be sorrowful for fans, this might be the appropriate time for it to end.Digimon Adventure 2020was created as an homage to the season that commenced this amazing series. The reboot was the perfect opportunity forDigimonto let go of the entertaining but somewhat cruel tradition of constantly ending the life of one of its most beloved characters. It may be time for the franchise to give Leomon and his evolutions a more prominent role, one in which he will have no danger of dying.
Digimonis a franchise that will forever be remembered as an iconic anime all around the world. The next season of the anime could be the beginning of a new tradition, allowing theLeomonevolution line to be free from their constant suffering.
