Titans #16 original classic costumes

InTitans#16, the creative team of Tom Taylor, Lucas Meyer, and Adriano Lucas pass the reins to John Layman and Pete Woods. While Layman and Woods are undoubtedly steering the series into a new era, the duo has also brought back a piece of the old as the Titans don their classic costumes.

This means fans get to seeDick Grayson trade in the blue and black of Nightwing for his iconic Robin colors, with the rest of the team—Starfire, Raven, Donna Troy, Arsenal, Cyborg, and Beast Boy—following suit. It’s an epic throwback, but the costume change happens for a far more ominous reason than just nostalgia.

Titans #16 Donna Troy Deja Vu

The Titans' Classic Costumes Return to Present-Day Continuity

Fans Can Thank Clock King for the Titans' De-Aging Episode

The Titans donning their iconic costumes isn’t as straightforward as it first appears. In a sudden and unexpected twist, the team goes from wearing their present-day suits to their classic Teen Titan costumes in the blink of an eye. They’re also noticeably de-aged, appearing as teenagers rather than the young adults they are now. However, this change only lasts for a single panel before they return to their standard costumes. The scene plays out from Donna’s point of view, and instead of telling the team what she just witnessed, she writes it off as an intense case of déjà vu.

It’s only later in the issue that it’s revealedwhat Donna saw was the work of Clock King, who had infiltrated the Titans’ minds and was turning back the clock on their memories. His attack ultimately allows him to knock out the team, but before he can spirit them away, Donna fights off his influence and prepares to take him on to protect her friends. The issue cuts off at this point, but it offers a solid explanation for why Donna saw the Titans in their old costumes. While the outcome of the battle remains to be seen, fans will undoubtedly appreciate the nostalgic flashback.
