As a brief recap, the details surrounding Diana’s death remain somewhat unclear. However, we know for certain that despite the Sovereign being locked away on Themyscira for years, he somehow managed to orchestrate a deadly takeover that wiped out the Amazons and killed Wonder Woman, leaving only Lizzie, Diana’s daughter, standing. Thanks to dialogue betweenLizzie and the Sovereign, it’s revealed thatDiana’s death occurred during a battle that was part of an ongoing conflict known as the"Wonder War,“with a blade to the heart delivering the fatal blow to the iconic Justice League hero.

The dagger in Diana’s chest also brings attention to the costume she’s wearing. This new outfit is a high-collar, skintight bodysuit that incorporates Diana’s iconic gold, red, and blue, alongside silver and black accents. The top of the collar features her signature double“W”band, while the red bustier has an abstract golden eagle bordered by silver chainmail. The costume also includes golden shoulder pauldrons, a golden double W belt, and star-spangled pants, giving Wonder Woman a fresh yet familiar look clearly designed for battle.

It’s truly a shame that the only glimpse fans get of this new costume is Diana wearing it bloodied and crumpled on the ground, lifeless. It would have been epic to see the full look in action, with Wonder Woman battling. However, given Tom King’s tendency to jump around with time skips, it’s possible that a future issue may show the battle that led to Diana’s death, giving this new costume the appreciation it deserves. Fans can only hope that the next time they see thisWonder Womancostume, it’s without a dagger protruding from Diana’s chest.
